Very impressed
What a great knife! I have 13 other Spyderco knives but this one is definitely unique. It's got a great handfeel and the quality is all there. Item arrived well packaged and a day earlier than estimated. Great purchase!

My new favorite knife!!!
The Smock has very quickly become my favorite knife. It's not just the fit and finish, but the shape of the blade and quality of the hollow grind; the sound and feel of the blade running on the bearings and the satisfying "click" as it opens and closes. I've even grown to love the scales, which at first I did NOT like. I still might do as planned and get some custom micarta scales from Sharp Dressed Knives, but I might just wait a while and enjoy these. At first, I thought the flipper was a bit tough to trigger to deploy the blade, then I figured out that if you lay your entire part of the tip of your finger up to the first joint on the flipper and then just slide it down along the contour of the scales, it flips right open with a solid click. I can't say enough about the blade. It comes already scary sharp and I absolutely love the hollow grind and I've even come to accept the choil that isn't really a choil, but a recess for the blade to fit around the button lock mechanism. It all just comes together in this sleek package that MAKES you want to fidget with it. And the fidgeting with this knife is addictive. If I could change only one thing about it, it would be that the Spydie hole could somehow be a bit bigger. I can Spydie-flick it open, but it takes a bit of learning how to catch that small hole on your finger. I liked the action right out of the box, but I did end up disassembling it and lubing everything up right and reassembling without the 2nd detent. I saved it in case I ever want to put it back, but I'm loving the action even more with that secondary detent removed. And the way this slim little knife fits in the pocket without even a flipper to snag your hand on is awesome. If you're on the edge of deciding wether or not to pull the trigger on a Smock, you can't go wrong with this knife. Do it!!! If you haven't considered it as one you might like, you are missing out! I love my Para 3 and Manix, but they are spending more time at home lately. The Smock is dominating pocket time.

Kinda weird, and I like it.
I get that this is a polarizing knife. Spyderco, in and of itself, is a little polarizing. Most of their knives are function over form and people love them or hate them. The Smock seems to deviate from Spyderco's normal motif, heavily favoring form, but don't be mistaken, this is still a very functional knife. The departure from the leaf shaped blade with a large hole to a more traditional shape with a smaller thumb hole will appeal to some, but many traditional Spyderco fans might find it less appealing. Personally, I love this knife's look, more so in person than in pictures. It's unique, maybe a little weird, and I like that. It's a fidgeter's dream. The flipper action is addictive. I put it on my desk the day I got it and I kept picking it up to play with it. I'll admit, my index finger was sore after the first day of owning this knife. The button compression lock is great and I wish Spyderco utilized this locking mechanism in more knives. The thumb hole is just barely big enough to be used for either thumb opening or the Spydie-flick, however, because of the Smock's geometry, it is not as easy as the knives with a more curved handle and leaf shaped blade. I primarily open it with the flipper tab or by pressing the button on the compression lock and snapping it with my wrist. The action is smooth but deliberate, the blade won't swing as freely as on some knives. If you want the Smock to be a little snappier, there is a way to remove one of the detent balls inside the handle to free up the action. The carbon fiber/G10 scales provide adequate grip and give the knife a refined look. This is a 4.9 star knife in my opinion, but I couldn't give it 5 stars for these reasons:It feels heavier in the pocket than 3.7 oz. I'm not sure a full stainless steel liner is necessary. Some skeletization could have saved some weight in this knife. The action could be a hair looser. The jimping on the top of the blade where your thumb rests is unpleasant feeling. The carbon fiber/G10 scales seem like Spyderco cut corners. I wish they were full carbon fiber.S30V steel, while great, seems too pedestrian for this knife. I will say, it was razor sharp out of the box.The stock clip is just ok. A satin titanium deep carry clip would be better. This is a cool, fun, unique knife, that feels great in the hand, is fun to open and close, and has a great blade with a distinct shape. I'm not sure it will be my daily driver as it's maybe just a little to heavy and a little too long to wear with slacks, but it will definitely be in my pocket a lot.

Awesome quality.
This is by far the best and most favored knife I've ever owned. It's very easy to open and the straight edge of the blade makes it super easy to sharpen. On a side note,it's a fidgety flipper and very hard to put down.Well done, Kevin Smock.

My EDC
Absolutely love my Smock, it's my EDC knife. As a lefty it has everything I wanted. A good flipper option, a good middle finger flick option and a compression/button lock. As a lefty I generally hate thumb studs and any knife with a frame/liner lock. This knife is just perfect for me. Fidget friendly as hell (I catch myself unintentionally flipping it open and closed over and over while watching videos/movies). It was hair shaving sharp right out of the box. The only small complaint, IF I had to give one, was the detent was too tight until I removed the 2nd detent ball. I plan on fully customizing it with some MetonBoss oil slick frag Zirconium scales, zircuti clip, zircuti backspacer and button and changing the body/pivot screws to blue. After that I'd like to find an M390 Smock, an M4 Smock and a 20cv Smock and fully dress out all 4 differently. IF you've been wanting one, I suggest getting one while you can.
