First night reading it already in chapter 2
The book is easy to follow, straight to the point, you are learning commands and things right of the bat, the examples and the explanations are clear and short, I dont think you need a great knowledge on linux commands to follow this book but it does help you at trying out different things while following along.I honestly recommend it.

Great resource for learning Linux shell scripting once and for all! No
I had always felt confused and intimidated whenever I encountered a shell script, even after many years working as a software developer. I had tried other books and online tutorials without success until I found this book. The examples are easy to follow and thoroughly explained. While it helps to have some previous knowledge of the Linux commands, every script is broken down and well documented, and you can always research each command on your own if you want to go deeper.I’m really enjoying this book and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a way to really learn Linux scripting.

Not for the beginners
I've started readying this book and so far I can tell that it goes from zero to sixty very fast. The book is not designed for someone who is completely new to the world of scripting and/or programming. But it possesses the abundance of information and i am planning to turn this book into my desk reference.

Well thought out & great examples
This book is a must have for those that want to get right at it putting good & meaningful scripts together. Plenty of great examples and explains in such a easy to follow format.

very useful and applicable to the real world
this was so useful to me! i had already been exposed to scripting so i was a little more than a beginner but it covers so much and it actually teaches you how to use the skills presented. 10/10

Easy reading and good for brushing up, but not for beginners
I was a proficient shell programmer many years ago using SH and KSH on UNIX and bought this book as a refresher course and to learn what’s new in BASH on Linux. It’s meeting my needs nicely but I don’t recommend it for a beginner shell programmer. The main flaw is that it uses terms and concepts that aren’t explained until later chapters. In the photo example, the author is kind enough to warn you of that, but there are other examples where he does not. Even I, with my prior experience, had to either look ahead or enter and run sample code to figure out why it did what it did because the written explanation was insufficient or incomplete. Fun for me, I suppose, but probably not fun for a beginner.

I like the book a lot, solid but a beginner book, good for refresher
It would not be hard to make this a 4-star book. It does a nice job describing at a very high level, bash scripting. A little better editing and maybe some more content would do it - like there is some filler - cut and paste of the same diagram. It's still a classic, useful and easy to read. But it is a beginners book on programming, though there are some advanced examples in the treatment.
