Q: What square footage does this cover?

The manual says 193 square feet, with a CADR of 125+ (cubic feet/minute). So in a 193 square foot room (approx. 14'x14', 8' ceiling) it would do a complete air exchange every 12 minutes or so. However, that would be at the highest setting, which is kind of loud.

Q: Aside from the electronic controls on this model and the supposedly manual controls on the AC5000, are there differences in effectiveness?

The only other difference ( electronic vs. manual controls) is that this particular model (AC5250PT) comes with the PetPure Treatment Filter. The filter still is a True HEPA filter (99.97% capture rate down to .3 microns in size) but also has been treated with a fungistatic agent that kills odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew. If you have pets this is a helpful feature.

Q: I just bought one and air is only coming out of the right side (as you face it) of the unit. Is this the way it's supposed to work?

That is normal. It has a "squirrel cage" fan that throws the air out one side of the front. I don't know why they didn't design the air path so it comes out the center, but it is what it is. It's really not a problem. If you want the air directed a certain way, just rotate the unit to aim it that way. But remember: this isn't a fan intended to cool you with air flow. It's an air purifier. It shouldn't really matter that much which direction the air is going. I have two of these, one in the bedroom and one in our family room. I just aim them to get the air going where I want it and it's not an issue anymore. We love this product. I have asthma and allergies and these have helped tremendously. If one ever breaks, I'm replacing it immediately with the exact same product, regardless of whether the air comes out the front a little cockeyed!

Q: How does this compare to Honeywell AirGenius5 Air Cleaner/Odor Reducer, HFD320?

I prefer this one because I had both of these and the Germ Guardian was a whole lot better for my home! We have a real big dust problem being by a oil drill rig and allergies since we do live out in the country and hands down the Germ Guardian has cut my dust down a whole lot more than the Honeywell did! I also love the UV-C light technology on this as well. With kids always coming and going at our home sometimes they come in sick well it use to make us sick after they left but with this UV-C I can honestly tell you we have not been sick since we've bought these! They work great compared to the Honeywell and even compared to several other brands I have tried in the past! My son has bad allergies so he use to be always red eyes, sniffling and itchy but since I bought a second one and put it in his room it covers a good amount of space so his allergies aren't nearly as bad as what they were before!
