Is this a good saw to use for cutting tree branches (between 3" and 5" thick) into firewood? Has anyone tried to do this with this saw?

It ought to. I just used mine to cut two 2" x 6" pine nailed together. That would be 3" x 5 1/2".

it probably would cut bone but it has to be stable it probably would fly all over.

Yes, this saw will do 2x4s or 2x6s, for example, but I'd keep in mind that the saw probably is not for 3x3 or larger wooden posts. I'm just guessing on the largest size, however, from the size of the blade and overall size of the unit. This saw easily cuts paneling, however. Two blades come with the saw: a coarse blade for wood, and a fine-tooth blade for metal and plastic or PVC piping. So far the saw has done a great job for various tasks, and it's very compact and comfortable to use. I've used it mainly for planks about an inch thick, and fallen tree branches that need to be trimmed.

Will it cut plywood in a stright line ?

This saw will easily cut plywood on a straight line. As long as you have straight marking to follow. This saw is the bomb.
