Great quality and super design
I bought one of these myself after seeing the BBC Sherlock series. The lens quality is very good, I have used it to examine watch parts up close and to clean delicate integrated circuits. The slide-shut case is a brilliant design, you never have to worry about a scratched lens or a lost case. I liked this magnifying glass so much I bought one for my niece who is an amateur geologist. She uses hers to look up close at little crystals growing on things, and rock samples she digs up. Great product, highly recommended.

Worth every nickle.
I bought this product for my granddaughter (Hi Morgan) who is Sherlock's No. 1 fan. Used it myself briefly and I know why he likes it. Amazing magnification and clarity for such a compact device. German optics! All that needs to be said. I Might buy another one and become a consulting detective myself.

Clearly the best option
Been looking for a decent pocket magnifier for years. All others were either too clunky, bulky, cheap, or way too expensive. This one is none of those. While watching the Sherlock series the second time I took note of the one used by the main character. Don't know how it got by me the first time. But I'm no Sherlock Holmes, I guess. This unit was just what I was looking for. Durable, compact and flat, good optic quality. It's even gone through the wash and dry in a pocket a few times and still in fine condition. Cleaner, actually. In my own experience and for my own purposes it's clearly the best option.Pun intended.

VERY tiny!
it magnifies fine...BUT is not any where near the size it shows in the picture. It is very tiny and magnifies such a small area.

Excellent Knockoff.....But!
I've been collecting magnifying lenses since I first started reading Doyle years ago. This is either THE lens used in the BBC show SHERLOCK or it's the best knockoff I've seen. The plastic guard over the plastic lens [yes, it's all plastic] may be a bit loose, but it's still all good. Check the lens for scratches. If it doesn't have any, the guard will prevent any scratches in the future. Also, be aware that this is quite a strong lens. The usual pocket lens is generally 3x. This is 5x. Not a reading lens due to both its magnification and it's relatively small size. That having been said, it's sad that SHERLOCK fans have to buy this article from Magnifying Aids, the dishonest retailer whose selling it. Magnifying Aids out of Florida, started selling this thing at a reasonable price of about $27.00 AND THEN added a shipping cost of almost the same amount [that's right, they expected you to pay as much to ship it as it actually cost]. Apparently realizing that this policy didn't even agree with their own published shipping prices, they decided to arbitrarily double the price of the lens and then pretend that they're shipping it for free. Worse than that, even though they brag about getting the product out the door within three days, Magnifying Aids took as long to get it to me as it would have taken had I ordered it from Germany. Apparently the original shipping price of over $25.00 involves a little known Slow-Boat-To-China shipping mode. Truly Pathetic! Magnifying Aids doubles the price, takes forever to get it to you and then has the audacity to brag about their speed. In conclusion, SH fans will be delighted to know that they can have this precious little item nestled in the same pocket as they keep their I-phone with it's collection of Irene Adler ringtones, but only THE Woman and other S&M fans will appreciate the slipshod service of this supplier. Sadly, I've yet to find the product elsewhere, and that is the ONLY reason I'm not sending it back to Magnifying Aids on the same camel that delivered to me.IF you are not buying this for its iconic value; IF you're just looking for a good serviceable pocket lens, seek another lens. There are plenty on Amazon. And for the sake of your own blood pressure and sanity, buy it from a different retailer.

Great product.
As far as accuracy against the show (BBC's 'Sherlock') goes, I think it completely lives up to the requirement. It had no scratches or defects of any kind when I received it. I am completely satisfied with the product.

Just like the magnifier BBC Sherlock uses!
If you're looking for the magnifier Sherlock uses on the BBC show, you've found it! And it has found a home along with my numerous other Holmesian and British artifacts. The magnifier pulls double duty when I need something easy to handle when I'm proofreading documents. Great little magnifier!

Third time was not a charm
To be fair, this was my third purchase of a "Sherlock!" pocket magnifier and the first two were perfect. With every move I seem to misplace one, and so I replace it with another. The product arrived well protected, everything seemed according to Hoyle until I went to open it; first half of the sliding action was fine, the second half of the action was quite reluctant.I figured it might be just a "brand new/needs to break-in" thing, but, three weeks later, it's still quite stubborn, and it's pretty damned annoying.
