There is a hole in the middle of the brush which the powder comes through, because of this I have not had a problem with the powder getting everywhere. You do not dip the brush into the powder which may be messy. Hope that helps!

I recently purchased the cool blonde shade. It appears your hair is highlighted in darker tones, so perhaps a warm shade would help. I hope this answers your question.

It really depends on how much you use. In general the darker shades last for 60 or more applications while the blonde shades last for 30 or more.
