Relatively Easy, don’t be afraid! — Small repairs are often difficult to get resolved in our metro area. There are just too many larger and more lucrative contracts that small projects can get pushed to the bottom of the list. I get it. They are supporting their families. — When our sprinkler guy was becoming less and less reliable and finally stopped coming, I was doing less “seeing the handwriting on the wall” and more “seeing the geyser in my lawn.” - I have always said that home maintenance requires courage. Take heart, this one is pretty easy. Finding the sprinkler was a bit challenging since we didn’t even know what we were looking for and none were in stock in the local stores. Naturally, we checked out Amazon and found what we thought was a match. We couldn’t be sure. When hadn’t don’t this before. I would like to say the hardest part was over, but a 1” tree root had grown around the broken sprinkler and a small axe was required. My husband enjoyed showing the rogue root who was the boss of the yard. The rest was easy and satisfying. Just unscrew the broken sprinkler and screw in the new one. Even with chopping out the root it didn’t take 15 minutes. We were so encouraged that we ordered a few more and will replace others as needed.

You Can Do It
My wife ran over this sprinkler head with the lawn mower and shattered it completely. I first thought to call the repair company as this seemed like a complicated job.But somebody told me it was a simple screw it off screw it on job.You know like changing a light bulb. So I started to look for a replacement part. I tried Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, no luck. Then I saw it on Amazon. The only thing to know about this is there are two ways to install this sprinkler head. The most common way is the screw on screw off way. The other way, my situation, is to plug the bottom port and use an elbow fitting that friction fits to a plastic hose. Either way you can do it yourself! Just dig up the broken one install it,and twist the spray head in the right direction and you are done. This is a very long sprinkler so you have have to dig down pretty deep but I just used a hand trowel and my hands. If you look at the picture you will see where the elbow fitting goes, just a little down from the top of the sprinkler. The plug is in there and you take it out and put it in the bottom of the unit. I think you have to order the elbow fitting separate if this is the way yours is connected. Anyway I order the part and elbow from Amazon, get it quickly at a fair price, install it myself, and save big.You can too! This is really a very easy repair that almost anyone can do. To close, you might ask how the lawnmower broke this sprinkler as it is used in flower and shrub beds where you do not use a lawnmower. As I said you may ask.Refer to the second word I wrote.

Good 6inch popup
I replaced some existing Rand Bird 4inch popups with these. They deliver the additional height over the 4inch that I removed. Installation of these of a bit easier due to two choices of water inlet; 1/2 port on the button or the 1/2 port half way up the casing. The nozzle which comes with this sprinkler allows with 360 degree spray or it can be adjusted down along with a 20% reduction of water coming out of the nozzle to reduce the maximum spray diameter.I reduced my rating from 5 to 4 stars for this body (without nozzle) can be purchased for under $5. Nozzles generally run between $1 and $1.50 which makes this sprinkler to be not so good of a value at its current price. Also keep in mind that this sprinkler is Rain Bird's cheapest line of sprinklers. More expensive models may come with pressure regulators to ensure a more consistent spray pattern if your water pressure changes or improved seals which reduce water leakage after retracting back into the ground. So my recommendation to anyone considering buying is that if you are replacing an existing Rain Bird sprinkler and want to save a few dollars by using the nozzle from your old sprinkler, just buy the body and save a few dollars. Saving a few dollars per sprinkler is a big deal when you are like me and have approximately 20 4inch popups you need to replace with 6inch.

Fits in old canisters without having to dig them out
I manage and repair the sprinkler system for my condo complex. We have three of these 12” pop-ups at our entrance and I noticed that two were leaking. I discovered four on a Friday evening and couldn’t locate replacements locally online so I ordered from Amazon on Saturday with next-day delivery. I received and installed them before noon the next day! I took the easy way out since the pipe connection was at the bottom and removed the top to just replace the insides, nozzle and cap. That way I didn’t have to dig a deep hole and would be especially handy if we used the side port. Having never replaced these before, I was guessing as to what I needed and this was it. They came with adjustable nozzles but I put the old nozzles on these heads and saved the new ones for another day. It couldn’t have been an easier repair.

Can accept other nozzles
I needed the extra height for my low-volume sprinkler set up, but pop ups in this height are not available with the low volume "swirling" heads. I simple removed factory nozzle and installed low volume nozzle. Works perfectly.I wish even taller bodies were readily available, years ago I saw some that were much, much taller, but have not been able to source them since. I'm guessing there wasn't enough market or that there was some problem with the super tall ones.

BACK PLANTS NOW GET WATER
I did not know that these type of sprinklers existed . COOL,AS my plants got bigger, the front ones blocked the water from getting to the back row. This worked perfectly rising up 12 inches, now the water sprays high enough to reach all my plants again....YEA & THANKS
