How big is the physical holder? Height & Width?

19" wide x 10" high and 12 1/2" deep. It fits nicely on the little shelf below my computer desk and holds printer paper, colored paper, card stock, labels, letterhead, envelopes, etc. basically keeping piles of paper and clutter out of the way. I love it.

Would this be sturdy enough for college textbooks?

No I would not use this for college text books. I use it for paper and class assignments.

Will the compartment fit construction paper?

I work in a call center. Would this hold a phone?

I used to put my purse on top of it every day until I rearranged my desk area! I think a phone would be just fine. Something heavier like a printer or a computer would be risky though!
