Q: Why are there trans fats in this?

I have not tried this product but looked up the answer out of curiosity. All ruminants like cows apparently have bacteria in their rumens (a part of their digestive tract) that naturally produce trans fats at a low percentage. The nature of that trans fat is chemically different from the trans fat found in partially hydrogenated soybean oil. Eating ruminant-produced trans fat was not seen to increase risk of coronary heart attack, while the trans fat produced from vegetable oil has been seen to increase heart attacks. Realize that in the U.S. any product having less than 0.5 g trans fat can put "0" on the label. Q: Can you use this to make pemmican?

We just made pemmican with this tallow. I bought this product and another, just to test. I made two batches, one per brand of tallow. I prefer this Fatworks Beef Tallow over the other for appearance, consistency and most of all, flavor. Good stuff!

I purchased some in 2015 and only just used it this weekend. It was still good, beautiful creamy color and no odor. So, at least 4 years..
