Kwikset 99050-002 Model 905 Value Lock Keyless Entry Electronic Keypad Deadbolt for Garage or Side Door, Polished Brass

Let me preface this review with a little back story... we live in a relatively rural subdivision, and (until now) rarely locked the side door that was our primary entrance/exit. So this lock replaced a keyed deadbolt (also Kwikset) that was generally only locked at bedtime. Now, thanks to this device, we lock the door with a push of a button every time we walk out the door and the kids' race to the steps when we get home to be the one who enters the PIN!Installation: Very easy, was replacing a Kwikset deadbolt (not sure if that matters) and everything lined up perfectly without needing any adjustment.Use: Setup was simple, I had a PIN configured a few moments after it was installed, and haven't had to touch it since (other than locking/unlocking). The motor and keypad are NOT quiet, I can clearly hear from the living room (35 feet away) when someone is punching in a code, and the motor sound is noticeable. Honestly, I consider the noise a plus, since it would be good to know if someone was trying to unlock the deadbolt for nefarious reasons. I don't think I'll replace all the locks in the house with these, but this is very nice for the primary entrance/exit since you don't have to pull your keys out to lock the deadbolt when leaving, and if you leave your coffee in the house you can run in without having to take your keys from the ignition while your family waits in the car (not that I've ever done that).

Completely unreliable or bad programing. If ever somebody puts in the wrong code or begins to type the code and doesn't finish, it locks you out completely. And when you are locked out, there isn't even a key slot, so you best have another door!

I installed this on an old commercial steel door, it works great. Installation took about 5 minutes and if you add a latch guard you can skip a door handle altogether. It feels really solid, I have no issues with the backup power insert coming out. Definitely worth the price, go for it.

I needed a lock that was small because the bolt and latch were installed very close together on my front door. This lock is smaller than most and worked perfectly.The first lock I received would not function properly. Amazon contacted Kwikset who talked me through a couple troubleshooting suggestions. After only a few minutes The technician stated the lock was truly non-functioning so Kwikset sent a new one which did work perfectly.The lock was easy to install by removing my preexisting deadbolt. The instructions are clear with easy to follow pictures. It is motorized and works better than one that I paid $120 from Lowe’s. Works so well that I purchased a second one for my daughter. Great customer service. Nice looking product.Update: it has been four months and I am still using the original batteries. I have now purchased my third lock for a different door. They are so convenient. The whole family loves these little locks.

I almost lost my will to live installing this. I'm a persistent and confident handy person, but this just was not right. The programming function was very difficult to understand and the instructions we're not very clear. I had multiple problems because of the size of the bolts. I installed and uninstalled this about 10 times before it finally worked. Make sure the buttons are sounding before you try handing... Seriously.

I didn't get a chance to install or frankly get it out of the package. I ordered the Venetian Bronze and it looked great on the keypad, however the large deadbolt portion that goes on the inside of the door is actually a matte black, therefore if your going with the oil rubbed/Venetian bronze look in your house, the matte black just won't work out. I'm sure it's a cost cutting measure, but having two different finishes just doesn't make sense. I couldn't find this fact in the product description, and although there are additional pictures on the product page, it's nearly impossible to see the difference in the colors. Thankfully, Amazon's returns are great, so I'll just order something different.

I am not handy, but I removed our old deadbolt and installed and programmed this one in about 10 minutes. Super easy instructions and easy to operate as well. Two small items of note: the interior door housing is black plastic. At this price point and for the location in our home (garage entry door), it's a complete non-issue for us. And second, the 9V battery backup is actually the user physically holding a 9V battery from the outside of the door if the batteries in the unit go dead. So... make sure you have a 9V accessible to act like a spare key in case the batteries die. There is no key for this deadbolt, which I think is great, but at the same time, it makes it a little tricky to unlock the door in the event the batteries die.Neither of these "notes" are deal breakers for us. Ease of use and peace of mind in a very inexpensive package.

3 months in. One of the buttons stopped working. How did I find this out? Went to work. Locked door. Came home at night. Couldn't get in my door because I couldn't put my code in as one of the buttons became unresponsive. Locked out of my home. Had to call a locksmith. 2 hours later and $200 gone. I worked all day for nothing. When I called the support number it doesn't exist anymore. Great customer service! Do not buy any kwikset product.

Con este cerrojo, sólo tenemos que apretar dl botón del candado para que, sin necesidad de llave, salgamos y entremos rápidamente sin llaves. Optamos por la contraseña de 8 dígitos y todo va muy bien. Si las baterías se agotan, hay manera de alimentar el cerrojo desde afuera con una batería de 9V (las cuadradas), introducir la contraseña, y entrar a recargar o reemplazar las baterías muertas. La parte que da al interior es de plástico, que es el único tema que no me gustó.

Easy to program and install but this is a grade3 lock, not for high security locations like your house or business, ok for a garage or shed. Assuming you have a hole saw and a power drill you can install in a standard door in under an hour. This thing is made of flimsy metal and plastic and good pry bar could tear it open. I use it on my garage which is detached from my house and its fine to use it there.

Easy to install. Easy to use but the buttons had to be pushed in the dead center. Otherwise the button will get stuck and the lock will be unresponsive. The battery will also be drained. This happened not just to one button but to all the buttons on the keypad. Very frustrating and wish I had bought another lock.

Didn't notice there was no key to unlock it if batteries die, otherwise works great. You have to use a battery to unlock it if batteries inside the lock go dead.
