Inaccurate Information
As a PT who worked with children, grandmother of a child with autism, wife of a pediatrician who specialized in treating children with autism and a student of meditation, I picked up this book with hopes that it would be a resource for my daughter and son-in-law. I stopped reading on page 35 where Ms. Lebowitz writes that the link between autism and MMR vaccine is a matter of belief. This is not a matter of belief but of science. There is no causal link between autism and vaccine. There is not even any controversy about it in the scientific community. The small case series published in Lancet that posited such a link was written by Andrew Wakefield who was funded by lawyers trying cases seeking damages. The article was later retracted by Lancet and Wakefield was found guilty of ethical violations and of fraud.I stopped reading the book because, if Ms. Lebowitz got that wrong on page 35, I would not be able to trust anything else in the book.

This is a truly FANTASTIC book that parents will enjoy and feel uplifted by,
When you have a kid on the Autism Spectrum, your life will never be the same again. If you are anything like us, you own almost every book ever written and are glued to any and all info that can help. I would like to say this. Cancer patients go to a cancer specialist. Never believe change cannot happen, it can and it does. Find a doctor that specializes in Autism, even if they do not take your insurance and even if you have to wait 6 months. In our experience and $50 000 in medical insurance later, most don't have a clue or will send you off on your own to "figure it out". I am not saying this book gives you all the answers. But I do love the mindfulness approach here and especially that it deals with couples and the hardship ASD causes to parents relationships. The rest, you will have to research. DAN Dr's are amazing. Saved my kids life. Blessings.

Absolutely frustrating book.
Absolutely frustrating book. Biggest frustration: the author's solution to every situation, frustration and reaction to your child is to practice "your mindfulness". If that is the be all-end all solution, she sure doesn't put much (if any) time into how to practice being mindful.Other frustrations of this book: The topic of Leaky Gut is introduced in the beginning of the book and the author states that it will be discussed in more detail in a later chapter, it is not. When it's the topic of sexual awareness, she she states "there are ways you can teach children from an early age not to inappropriately or publicly touch themselves." There may be, but the author sure doesn't share or instruct what those are. There isn't a single thing in this book that you can't find by simply going to a national autism organization's website.

Amazing resources throughout this book!
Autism is a spectrum disorder that is so misunderstood by many. This book provides a comprehensive look at what autism is, as well as what parents can and should do to support their child. The book was a treasure trove of resources. The author gives detailed information about autism in general, but also on parenting tips too. The book was insightful and practical and there were many times where I really appreciated the advice, examples and more that were offered to help me beter understand the concepts being shared. If you have a child with autism or know someone who does, this is a valuable resource that you will not want to pass up!*I received this for review - all opinions are my own*

I just finished reading this book and it was really amazing. I swear I felt like she must have ...
I have an adult son ( 27 years old ) that we only recently found outwas autistic. I just finished reading this book and it was really amazing. I swear I felt like she must have walked in my shoes at some point for that kind of perspective. There are so few resources available to high functioning autistic adults and we always joke that Cory was just ahead of his time. It seems no one knew much at all about diagnosing or life planning for kids like Cory. It was so easily accepted as just poor social behavior really was because no one understood and he could not tell us. He has done some amazing things though that I know understand must have been super-human to him. :) Anyway, I could go on all day about this. And, I have never in my life been moved by something so much as to write the author a noteafterwards. I just wanted to say thank you for the advice, the kind words and the understanding you put into that book. It really meant alot to me.

Insightful
I thought this book was very insightful and did change my perspective on a few things. There were a couple of areas where I wish she would have went a little deeper thought with more "how to's" and exercises. That's my only feedback that maybe can be dealt with in a later book. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it to any parent or professional who's looking for something a little different than the current autism status quo.

I wish my parents had this book!
From a perspective of a young adult on the autism spectrum, I'm happy to see a comprehensive book to help parents understand their child with autism. This book has great information and research along with really helpful parenting tips. I wish my parents had this book when I was growing up.
