DTM Ariens Auger Gear 524026 52402600 52422700 Made in USA

OK, the good news is, this gear fits my Ariens snowblower gearbox just fine (I have a model 924121). During the last storm the augers stopped turning and I thought one of the shear pins had snapped. On closer inspection, the entire unit was spinning, indicating a problem in the gear box. When I disassembled everything, sure enough, the box was full of brass pieces from the gear.The worm gear was still in pretty good shape, so I contacted my Ariens dealer for a replacement gear. Low and behold, Ariens no longer supplies the gear, having replaced the entire unit (not including augers), for the tune of around $300. It was much less expensive to buy the gear online and I was glad I could find one. It fits perfectly and my snowblower is back in operation and waiting for the next storm. I probably should have replaced the 3 seals as well, but needed to get back in operation before the next snow storm.Now the bad news. I have had this unit for 14 years and never had a problem. It has received light duty over that time frame, being used perhapa 4 or 5 times each year. In talking to my dealer, he indicated that Ariens recognized a problem with there machines, in that the gearbox is not sufficiently rugged for the application. That is why they no longer supply parts to the old units. They replaced the gearbox with a cast iron casing and beefed up parts. SO, the real problem is one of poor design in the first place. As a consumer, we should expect the manufacturer to design products appropriate for the application, especially in this case where all the important pieces are out of sight to the consumer. I worked for years in the auto industry and they do the same thing. IE use the least expensive materials and parts that they can get away with just to save a few dollars in manufacturing costs.When you think about it, this one little gear takes all the abuse of moving snow and it is a wonder they last as long as they do. It is single point of failure in the system and I suspect that many Ariens snowblowers have failed because of this. In reality, my fix to the gearbox is temporary and it will eventually fail again. Of course, if I get another 14 years out of the machine I may no longer be around to complain about it when it breaks again.

perfect fit. Was told the gear was no longer available in Canada for my Ariens Snowblower. This was a perfect fit. Had to get shipped to US and then to Canada. Wish it was available in Canada.

I call F. C. Taplin west Springfield,Ma wanted to buy gear,they said, gear no longer sold seperatly, you have to buy whole assembly ,shafts and case and all ,found the gear on computer Amazon ordered wed got it today in mail 1:30 it is 3:30 back together ran a couple minutes and it works fine,the heck with Ariens, ( buy the whole assembly,I think N O T ! ) i am satisfied. the whole assembly was aroun $370.00 bucks

Perfect replacement part for my Ariens 8524 (2003 vintage). Ariens does not sell the gear alone anymore, only as part of a $350 assembly. This aftermarket part appears to be high quality and is a perfect cost-effective replacement.
