Excellent lens.
After owning almost every Sony lens, I was hesitant to buy this Tamron, I'm glad I did, it is way better than the Sony 18-200, smaller, lighter, better color and picture quality and better price too.I have been complicating my life changing lenses on the go, not anymore.

Great all around lens!
Really like this lens. Takes care of what two lenses from Sony normally accomplish. Pretty much use this lens all the time. Only downside is weight, but that is the same issue for a lot of lenses like this.

Great performer on all fronts.
Drag 10 lbs of camera lenses halfway across the world and end up only using one of them. Swapping out lenses in a crowded open air market is not practical. On our recent cruise to Spain and Italy, I found that the 18-200mm reach of this lens allowed me closeups, scenic shots, architectural studies, and lots of low light museum photographs. I started the vacation swapping out appropriate lenses for the shots I was taking, but after a couple of days, this lens pretty much stayed on my camera the whole trip. It never really "pops" like some more restrictive lenses that are better at a few things, but through the whole 18-200mm you get good solid contrast, saturation and clarity. The pictures I've submitted with this review show the reach, light performance and saturation that I obtained on a cloudy day with a Sony A7 II. Highly recommended.

Great Buy for the Sony NEX-5r
The quality of the pictures are the same as the Sony lenses. Reason for the 5 stars is that you can carry a single lens to cover the 18-200mm range.Decently weighted to give you a solid feel.Unlike Sony lenses, when zooming the lend had a very rough feel to it. Could be a con for dinner people.Compared to the Sony kit lens (18-50 mm), when switching on the camera, the camera takes a slightly longer time to start up. Don't know if its a software issue with the tamron lens or just a hardware issue of the lens.Sometimes when completely zoomed out (close to the 200mm) end the camera just refuses to focus on the object that is zoomed into. This is when the camera is in the "Intelligent Shooting Mode".These are my observations so far. Even if some of my observations are cons I would still but and use this lens as it is an awesome convenient product to use and costs much less than Sony's own 18-200mm lens.

The lense is good for the price
Takes a long time to focus sometimes. The lense is good for the price.

Convenient, but...
Purchased this to replace the two stock lens for my A6000. Much easier to carry around and the nice thing of not having to replace one lens with the other also avoids the chance of dust getting onto the sensor (which had created annoying dark spots which I didn't notice until after trips.) Zoom range is comparable to the stock lens. Speed is a bit slower but acceptable. One thing buyer be aware is that avoid shooting buildings or any square/rectangle objects at its maximum angle, especially do not try to fill the frame - you *will* see annoying barrel effect. If you just use the center portion of the frame, or zoom in a bit, then the barrel effect become negligible. So obviously there's a trade-off between convenience and picture quality. For me, it's more important not to carry multiple lenses. When you know what it's good for and what's not, you can probably make good use of this lens.

Awesome all-purpose lens for the price!
This lens works great for all general purpose pics. With one kid in sports and another learning how to walk, I needed a good lens that could take telephoto shots while also allowing me to take portraits and close ups with having to change lenses all the time. This lens does just that. It is a little bigger than the stock lens, but it appears to be a slightly bit smaller than the Sony 18-200mm lens. It looks awesome on the camera though and doesn't add too much additional bulk.

Super Price for A Great Lens CAN NOT BE SERVICED
UPDATE Sep 2020. The lens died early this year. Tamron service was closed due to COVID. I got through today and learned that Tamron will not service this lens. I knew they would not do warranty work but thought they would do repairs. NO NO Now I have a paper weight.I received my lens two weeks ago. I have taken over 300 pictures with it. Other then it being a bit heavier then my 55-210 I would not go back to a two lens system. The pictures look as good as with regular lens and the telephoto. Sharp and clear. I have not noticed any problem with it focusing.Another reviewer mentioned the grinding sound/feel when it is extended and retracted. I found the same thing, but within just a few pictures it was gone. Now the zoom in and out is smooth, and takes little effort. There is an included lens shade that works very nicely. The no american warrenty is not a problem. In almost 50 years I can not remember having a lens that broke or stopped working and had to be returned or fixed. No complaints, nothing but praise.UPDATE I have now had the lens for about a month. I do not notice the weight at all, and it is a real joy not having to carry two lenses. The zoom feature is now very smooth. One thing I have not had to use is the lens lock since it has never self extended while being carried. I have now taken well over 500 pictures and most look very sharp and clear (the duds were my fault with camera settings). I have this mounted on a Sony Alpha A6000. The Sony camera and the Tamron lens is a perfect combination if you want a light weight DSLR with plenty of features and ease of use.I would give it 6 stars if I could.
