Q: what is the difference between the R-115sw and the SPL-150?

Age. The R-115sw was phased out as they began releasing the SPL-150. They are essentially the same apart from price and age at this point. Slightly different cabinet build, but I don’t even think they really upgraded the amp that powers it.

Q: I’m interested in purchasing a subwoofer but the reviews are so horrible why are you sending out damaged goods?

By the way this is the Klipsch 15" SUB.

That was when these were first introduced. The issue resolved. AND if you have an older one that fries Klipsch will send you a replacement amp.

So...the volume or gain is calibrated in dicebles (- to +), the low pass or crossover is in herzs (Hz) and this would be where you set the LFE function of the subwoofer. The amplifier in the sub is for the function of the sub and the bookshelf speakers would get their power from the source they are connected to... av receiver, or power amp unless they are powered themselves. There is no doubt that this sub will make your movies sound better but it may not be the best sub for music if that is the primary use of your system. I would also ask if you really need a sub of this size...you said you have bookshelf speakers - this is a large and heavy sub. All of that being said, I have two of them and they rock but they are in a 13.2 system with large floor standing spekers.
