Works Perfect
I bought this submersible heater to keep the bird water from freezing during our cold Minnesota winters. We have been below zero several days now, last night was -13 degrees and this morning the water is still liquid with no freeze over! The birds are enjoying the opportunity to fresh water. This is the best water heater I have ever had! Worth every Penny! My dish is a large plastic tray that you put under pots! It’s an 18” round dish and a little under 3” deep. I put a flat rock on the handle of the heater to keep it submerged and also for the birds to perch on. I keep the water filled over the heater, this means I top off the water every 2 -3 days. Your feathered friends will love this life saving heater for them!

Works well in Minnesota
We’ve had this bird bath heater for a couple months now but I held off on my review until we had below zero temps. Last night we hit -6 and the bird bath is still all water. Not even a thin layer of ice. Works as advertised. On another note...the heater says you should only use a special type of extension cord that actually screws onto the heater plug. After buying the extension cord...which does what it says...I figured out it’s made by the same company that sells the heater. You could use pretty much any heavy duty extension cord as long as you wrap the connection with something like Saran Wrap and then tape it well. Just keep the water out. Also...the bracket that came with the heater to secure it to the bird bath didn’t work. Ended up clamping it down.

Winter water for the birds
I bought this heater for my birdbath. In our Colorado climate I have to add water to the shallow bird bath about once a week if it doesn’t snow. The cord on this one is longer & sturdier than the last one I had. Even when our night time temps are in the teens the bird bath has yet to freeze, not even the slightest around the edges.UPDATE: still going strong for the 3rd year. I noticed that the heat was causing my old concrete birdbath to degrade, so I put a deep rubber horse-feed bucket in my birdbath to protect it. The combo works great!

Also had rust problem
I'll echo what other reviewers said and that is the lock washer under the nut that holds the metal cover together started rusting within 2 days of putting this heater in the water. I found the exact same washer in stainless steel at Ace Hardware for $.11 so I replaced it and that put a stop to the rusting. Otherwise we've now had this heater into the negative temperatures (F) for several nights now, as low as -10 so far and it's still keeping our 2 gallon chicken waterer from freezing. So far it's kept our water free of ice for about a month straight. I will say it is bigger than it looks in the pictures, it seems like overkill for a 2 gallon size container and we check it daily to make sure we keep the water level above the heater. This thing seems like it's a better fit for a container in the 5-10 gallon range or bigger.

Buyer beware...JUNK!
Worked perfectly last winter; this winter it worked for a month and of course just as the 1 year warranty expired, so did the heater. Trips my GFIC as soon as plugged in. I'm going to contact the company ....Stay tuned!

Sturdy, functional winter solution for bird bath / fountain
I live in zone 8. I have a small 2-tier water fountain that the birds take baths in. Even with the fountain running all the time, the heater was able to keep the water at the correct temperature. The water ran freely all winter, and I didn't really notice a higher electrical bill. The birds really appreciated having running water in the fountain when the regular bird bath froze over. The only downside to this product is that the rounded top edge of my concrete fountain didn't allow the cord stabilizer to get a firm grip. The birds kept landing on the metal bracket and dislodging it. I ended up putting a small rock on the heater to keep it firmly at the bottom of my concrete fountain. If you have a pail with a straight side, the bracket should work just fine.It was a good purchase.Update— the heater stopped working after 4 years and started tripping the GFCI when it was plugged in. We had an extremely cold winter in 2016 and the heater worked more than it had in other winters. I still consider this a good purchase.

Kept the fountain running all winter
This is one heavy duty heater. I try to keep my fountains running all winter...birds need it, and it just cheers me up. I've tried all sorts of stuff, from having hot halogen spots on the bottom of the fountain, to those smaller bird bath de-icers, but after buying this, I basically took all that crap down, and just used this. It really works like a champ. It got super cold here this winter (0 F) and the large tiered fountain just kept running. It did get a bit of ice at that temp, but the water was still flowing. It's a really quality heater.

3-year lifespan
Bought this in Dec 2020. Not working this year. Well-taken care of. Minnesota. Considering re-purchasing but also thinking about the extra $10 for 3-year plan (if I could be bothered because you know how dealing with any kind of warranty goes!).

Abreuvoir, bain et même un spa pour les oiseaux en hiver.
Les oiseaux et les écureuils sont des visiteurs réguliers. Geais bleus, mésanges, tourterelles viennent régulièrement.

Works for a Canadian winter!
Really sturdy, well made and works in frigid Canadian winters. Kept the water in our bird bath ice free at -27C! Highly recommend this heater!

Keeps water outdoors from developing ice
This bird bath deicer provides water for birds throughout the winter months and the cord is nice and long that it does not sit in ice and snow with chances of shorting out

Doesn’t work, water froze.
Bought this with high hopes but it does not work. It is hard to tell if it doesn’t work until it is cold enough outside so now the return window is closed by 1 day and I am stuck with it and a frozen birdbath. Not happy.

So easy to use and works great in our cold winter ...
So easy to use and works great in our cold winter months when all of the water around is frozen! The birds love it. Set it up in my year round bird bath and it works like a dream. 6 foot cord is great too, allows enough length for plugging in without an extension cord.
