As a high school aged actor, finding good monologues is a challenge. They seem either too mature, too childish, or just too outdated. This book has a nice selection though. There's good variation in genre and length, providing good range. The best part about this book, in my opinion, is the website it provides. By going to this site, you can preview part of the play which is great for getting into character because you can develop a mini character sketch for your monologue which will ultimately better your performance. This is a good investment for any young adult actors out there.

Disappointing. I basically payed for a book to tell me to go to their website to buy full versions of the plays. Save your money and just go directly to the website if you want anything you can use.

Wonderful, quirky monologues for Teens
Most monologue books have the same boring pieces from the 1980s but this book is fresh and fun for your performers. I would definitely recommend it to other educators!

Great Resource for First-Year Drama Students!
I bought these to use with my first-year drama students! They are a great resource for quick-to-memorize scenes! Highly recommended for students who are just exploring their dramatic side!

Excellent choice for actors and teachers!
This volume of highly entertaining monologues is gleaned from previously produced one-act and full-length plays allowing for full characters with interesting stories. The book is organized well with monologues divided by gender including a section with monologues that would work with either gender. Pieces range from one to five minutes in length and cover a wide range of emotions. Characters run the gamut from historical to modern, literary to supernatural. While the age range of characters is 5-18, most of the characters are written as straight Caucasians. Dialogue in the book is realistic giving the teen actors opportunity to use strong voices. This is an excellent monologue book for middle and high school students with applications for competition as well as use in drama, speech, or English classes. Drama instructors can also get an idea of tone and pace of the plays from which these pieces come, making it easier to select a school play.

Amazing
Wow, what can I say about this book. I am 14 (on my mom's account) and I go to a school with a big-time drama program and we go to the "SCSTA (SC Speech and Theatre Association) Middle School Festival" Every year. My first 6th grade year, I had NO idea I could act. My drama teacher gave me this book and told me to look through it and find a monologue I liked for a competition she wanted me to enter. Well I looked through it and found a good one. I went to the competition and won 1st place! It was an amazing monologue. I also entered the competition the next year with a different monologue from this book and took 1st place for the 2nd time in a row! I am going back to this competition again in April with maybe another monologue from this book..... Wish me good luck! :)5 Stars for a reason!
