Egyptian Magic: The Quest for Thoth’s Book of Secrets

Broad coverage of a difficult topic
Egyptian Magic, by Maarten Raven, is a thorough description and analysis of Ancient Egyptian magical practices. Documentation is in the form of many pictured artifacts. Both highly secret religious magic and everyday uses of magic are covered. The level of writing is for the amateur as well as a scholar. The final chapter concludes with modern attempts at resurrecting the rites and practices of Ancient Egypt, as perceived by the originators of 19th Century and modern day organizations. Not wanting to label them cults, Raven dismisses them as unfounded on Egyptological evidences of what ancient practice was really like. Not only did I enjoy reading this book and looking at all of the pictures of ritual objects, but I also learned about why certain things were done in the past that was not explained in the older publications.

Don't buy this. Even the gods are misidentified! A lazy work.
Do not buy this book. Even the basic information, like identifying the gods, is incorrect! As you will notice in a quest for Thoth knowledge, Horus is on the cover. I was just in Egypt. This book is incorrect and makes a lot of untrue assumptions. I've marked it or I'd send it back. Mostly misinformation like Doreal!
