PIC Basic Projects

Not for beginners.
If you have already worked with Pic microcontroller using asm, or c. Then this book will be ok for you. If you are new to Pic, this book is not very helpful. Here is why.1: You dont get to your first project until chapter 5. Most people learn by doing so you will be spending time on technicall stuff for the first four chapter.2. List of material are not given. This can be a headache because you finally make it to your project and find out your missing a component, so you have to stop until you order one.3. You must determine the list of material for a given project by decihering the shcematics. If you havent worked with shcematics your out of luck.4. They dont really show you how the project should be assembled on the breadboard. In other book I have read they tell you were to put the component, eg, put the resistor on j12 to j15. Nothing in this book, you need to decipher it by looking at low resultion black and white pictures.5. The author doesnt recomend one programer. Most good books inform you that the projects can be done with different microcontrollers but so that one can follow along with the projects they recommend one one programmer that will be used throughout the book. For example the evil genius book and programing pic 12 using basic recommend one programmer to use during the projects. There are more issue with the book but to sum it up:The book does NOT provide a clear and straightfoward introduction to PIC applications. This book may be ok for someone who has already been programming pics and has understanding of electronic components and schematics.

Excellent book!
Thanks to this book which I purchased about 10 years ago, is that I decided to switch from Assembler to PIC BASIC PRO from melabs.com. I like the approach to the designs. Thanks Dr Ibrahim!, Now I have authored two books on PIC Micros.

Don,t buy this book
Don't buy this book. Not only does it reference obsolete parts, the publisher no longer supports the book. The URL listed in the book (which is supposed to provide support files) no longer works. I contacted the publisher and was told that the URL had been deactivated and that they no longer provided the support files or supported the book in general.Needless to say, I am returning the book a PIC Basic Projects: 30 Projects using PIC BASIC and PIC BASIC PRO nd will not be purchasing any further books from this publishing house.

A good starting point...
I had never done any sort of programming before and I was also totally unfamiliar with BASIC. This book helped to introduce the basics in an easy to understand way. I recommend this book to anyone just getting started like me who knows nothing about the PIC and BASIC programming. After reading the book I feel like I can tackle my own simple projects!

ok for beginners
Ok for beginners, if you're already gen'd up on the basics, look for another book. Difficult to see some of the small print and images on Kindle. All the authors seem to grab obscure numbers from nowhere, they don't explain where they have come from and how to adjust to one's needs.Wish my partner never introduced me to kindle and the books that attempt to educate one on Pic Micros. They all waffle on about simple stuff and breeze over the dufficult stuff. This book does explain some of the basics and ok if it's the first book on Pics that you're going to read.Overall, one star
