I bought these with a specific purpose in mind: I needed lightweight, spacious boots that I could Morris dance in. I remember looking for monkey boots years ago before Amazon was such a dominant force.Back in the 1970s, the coolest kids in my school wore ox blood DMs, and those in the second tier of coolness wore monkey boots. (Being terminally uncool, I wore sensible school shoes.) I never associated the monkey boots with the Mod movement, although I was very much in the "other tribe". Over 40 years later, though, it still irked to receive something so prominently branded with the "mod roundel". However, they are nicely made simple boots at a decent price. The fit is quite spacious, but adjustable with so many lace holes. They are light and fairly comfortable from new. However, I made the unwise decision to walk a few km in them on the first day. One was perfect, the other chafed a bit on my heel. I should have worn thicker socks and put more effort into breaking the boots in. In case it is relevant to your own decision whether to buy: they are perfectly good for Morris dancing in.

Boots looked ok on opening the box and I wore them the next day to walk to work. After half an hour’s walking my feet were killing me. Both toes and heels were very sore. Hopefully the boots will wear in but nothing like the monkey boots I had during late 70s and early 80s which were soft leather and no heel.

Great boots which quickly became very comfortable but unfortunately developed cracks in the sole and let in water. As over 12 months since purchase out of guarantee so no redress offered by seller!
