I'm quite tickled with this impact driver...
I'll admit something. Despite being a fairly "handy" guy who back in the early 70's worked in home construction, I had never really tumbled to just how wonderful "impact drivers" are for driving large screws into and out of things easily. I'd been doing it with my regular old hand drills, and it worked, and I figured that was that.It was only relatively recently, courtesy of two back-to-back hurricanes lining up on Oahu, that I noticed just how much easier it was to board up the windows (and there are a LOT of windows on our house) with 2x4's and plywood with an impact driver, which is something all the "helpers" I hired brought with them. It became clear that to a large degree drills are for drilling and impact drivers are for driving and removing screws. This was a bit of an epiphany to me, since I thought I had all the tools I needed. Apparently not.The amazing thing thing about using an impact driver is that it's so merciful to your wrist; it doesn't torque it around like using a drill does, since the staccato hammer blows are so fast. This also means you don't need to bear down with pressure to keep from stripping the screw. But I've also gone to torx-head screws and am backing away from philips-heads, because those enhance the effect; with large torx-head screws and an impact driver, one acquires a new super power. So I wanted to get one, but didn't want to drop a ton of money because I'll only use it sporadically. Actually Amazon had some no-name impact driver WITH batter and charger for under $40 when I initially looked, and that was probably a great deal... doesn't seem to be offered now though. After looking around, I decided that the specs of this impact driver would do the job, and the spare batteries are readily available from 3rd parties. Why get the combo? Because the combo only costs $10 more than the impact driver alone. (The drill that comes in this combo is pretty basic; fewer clutch settings, lighter in build, only one speed (but variable with the trigger)... nothing special and not as good as my existing B&D 18v NiCad tools. (I'll note that one can go on ebay and buy an adapter plate to run those 18v tools off these lithium batteries, though really I don't see a huge need. The difference between 18 and 20v is not only minimal numerically, but the 20v lithium batteries actually run at around 18v under load. (Lithium is slightly lighter and slighly more likely to catch fire, so that's a wash to me.)Anyhow, the most recent storm just passed, and I went out to pull down some boards over access doors... and man! the impact driver was sweet. Great big screws just came backing out of deep wood with nearly no effort. Where has this thing been all my life?I'll note that the "charger" that comes with the combo is pretty anemic, I think about a fifth of an amp, so it'll take a lot of hours to recharge a depleted battery. I've ordered a fast charger along with a couple of third-party 4ah spare batteries. Of course, one doesn't HAVE to do that... the slow charger works fine if you don't mind "slow", and is probably actually better for your battery. Just a "guy thing" maybe... I don't want it to take an entire day to recharge each of the larger batteries.I'm giving this 4 stars to start out and will update it as I use it more. But my initial review is "cool", it seems to work like the more expensive ones do. It misses the last star because it feels a bit less ergonomic in my hand than the $200 ones I've tried.do YOU have an impact driver?

This is not an impact wrench in this combo
I am terribly displeased with this purchase. I'm mostly displeased with the industry who has started labeling cordless screwdrivers as "impact drivers". I NEVER would have chosen to basically get 2 cordless drills with 1 battery. I thought this was going to have a socket drive. Alas, it does not. I would have spent my money on a reciprocating saw or circular saw instead....VERY DISPLEASED.EDIT: The first time I used this, I drove 3 screws. Charged it, 2 weeks later, tried to build a picnic table and 10 screws later, it was dead.....not acceptable, I'm returning.

Yes, anyone in construction as a profession will make fun of you for owning this but...
Don't be fooled by the price. This will work for any DIY homeowner. My brother in law made fun of my "baby" drills because he only buys the most expensive tools that are designed for everyday contractor use. I am a homeowner/fixer upper/DIY learner. This is perfect for anyone who needs a drill for the home and isn't a contractor full time.Buy this for weekend around the home use!!

Great value, and excellent compatibility with other Black+Decker tools.
This combo set is a good deal for the price. The 1.5AH battery should last a very long time, and replacements are easily found. The whole Black+Decker 20V line of tools use the same batteries and chargers, which makes it VERY easy to continue to buy from the same manufacturer. As far as the drill motor, it is light weight, fast, and has enough power to drill through anything. With the 1.5AH battery installed, the balance and weight are both perfect for light work around the house. The casing is plastic, but the parts you touch when holding it is rubberized. There is a Philips and flat-head drill bit that snaps into the back of the handle. For the impact driver, it is about the same weight and dimensions as the drill motor. The chuck has a locking mechanism that holds the bits in place. This is very important when you are using it to back out tough fasteners. The LED is a weak point, as it is barely bright enough to light the work area in a dark room. In sunlight, it's useless, but you probably wouldn't need it anyways if it was that bright.Overall, this is a great addition to the garage. I tend to abuse my tools, and so far Black+Decker tools have been VERY durable and resilient.

Great value for the value minded shopper.
Very satisfied with these tools. If you don't have a battery powered impact tool just buy this set. You will fall in love with it. Sure this is not as heavy duty day in day out "pro" or 'contractor grade" tool. I'm not making my living with this tool and would spend a lot more money of I were. But for around the house and in the home shop, this is money well spend and I am pretty conservative with money. I repaired some flooring and drove MANY 3 inch wood screws into 2X6 material with the impact and it was a dream!!!! If you don't have these tools or are looking to replace the same tools for home / project use, I see no need to spend more. ***** (Five Stars for practicality and value)

Fantastic -- especially when on sale!
Not top-tier tools, but the price, on sale, was fantastic. I have been building sheds, roofs, carports and shelves for the past two months, and I have been very pleased with the power and longevity of the drill and the driver. Some of the other tools aren't nearly as useful (the mini circular saw, for example, and the LED light [part of a second kit I purchased] which is disturbingly useless), but the drill and driver are AWESOME! Because this set uses the same batteries as my string trimmer, I now have four batteries, which pretty much guarantees that I won't run out of power.CAVEAT: Most of the affordable kits come with the smallest-capacity batteries. They're still lithium-ion, and they still work as advertised, but the 1.5-Ah units take a back seat to the 2.0-Ah and 4.0-Ah units that we really want (but don't want to pay for).I will buy more goodies. Looking for a good deal on the jigsaw. Perhaps trading someone for the circular saw? :)

Buena herramienta casera

I was amazed by the compact size of the drill
bought this to do a small project building a grape arbor. I was amazed by the compact size of the drill, I was so excited to use it. Drill a few holes on 2x6 easily & quickly, but then the pain kicks in -- the battery needs a charge. It takes 3-4 hours to fully charge, drill a few holes, and then it needs another charge.... ahh, need a coffee? sure! but just can't endure the downtime. The drill is good for everyday in house needs, but for a project, I instead buy a corded B&D drill https://www.amazon.ca/BLACK-DECKER-BDEDMT-Matrix-Driver/dp/B0094B9BHE/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Just the thing - for around the house DIY
I am basing this review, on the price I paid ($89.99).This is meant to be a supplement, to my older/heavier Ni-Cad Dewalt. This drill / impact set fit the bill perfectly. They are light weight, and comfortable to use,and the slim design means they can fit in places that my other drill cannot.Comes with one battery (pre-charged), but I have B&D cordless garden tools,so I have extra batteries when needed.I just did a couple of days of deck repair, and I had boththe drill & impact driver in regular use. They performed well, and the battery lasted well beyond the task. The LED light (on each) is a nice touch - and you can lightly pressthe trigger, to use as a temp flashlight.

Battery died after little use!!
Bought this product not even the month ago, used it maybe three times, battery is now dead and does not charge. But a replacement battery and charger to troubleshoot whether it was the charger or the battery that was not working properly, turns out it was the battery as it will not charge on the new charger. Be wary of very poor battery life as you may have a similar experiences where the battery will stop working after a couple of charges!!!
