This book has great general information for parents that have not done any research yet or have any personal knowledge of the Marine Corps. It was recommended on one of the support boards i joined with my son enlisted, so I got it. I read through it in an afternoon, many things I already knew or had just learned from the support boards and the Marine Corps website. It is handy to have it all in one place for reference and I will keep it in the Marine Corps box I made my son so may years from now he can have a memento.If you have done a lot of web searches and joined support boards/groups - this might be a skip for you as it is just a repeat of information.

My son is a recruit at Parris Island & I belong to any & all fb sites, Marine sites & other military sites. I'm slowly becoming an expert but, there was a ton of information I highlighted & bookmarked to share with m6 recruits family. Great info about family day, graduation, even what to wear & how to behave. Thank you so much for this book. I highly recommend it.

I got this book so that I would know what my recruit was going through during boot camp. I felt this book was more for my recruit than it was for me as a parent. The book was choppy. The first chapter was about the recruits receiving mail at book camp and then the next chapter was the history of the Marine Corp. I felt there was information in the book that I as a parent didn't need to know and that it was more for my son as he joins. I didn't feel I needed to know what all the Marine jargon and lingo was. Although there was some information in the book that was valuable, I feel I have gotten more information from other parents whose kids have already been in the Marines.

More informational than anything else. Excellent read for those who want all of the Informational type stuff your child will be doing while on Parris Island.
