Brilliant Art History Overview
Jam-packed with famous paintings, sculptures and buildings, this overview of art history is a brilliant introduction to the field. Each image is color-coded to indicate its country of origin, making it easy to follow evolution of art styles and movements within and outside countries. A brief synopsis of political, social and economic conditions is presented for each era, placing every work of art into its prevailing context. This art history book is dense with information and is a lasting reference for anyone seriously interested in art history and art appreciation. At such a low price, I'd strongly recommend it as summer reading for any fan of art history.

I like this book!
I really like this one. I am teaching Art History to my 7th and 9th grade grandchildren this year. They are home-schooled and have very little art education as it is not a required course in the core curriculum in Texas. I am a retired teacher but it has been a long time so I ordered a few art books to supplement my own curriculum - art history/art culture, fine arts, and others. This book is well written, concise and includes a great timeline! It will be a great resource for me and the two of them this year!

confusing, not for the novice
This very small book did not work for my students. They found it confusing and overwhelming, though it is organized on a timeline.Without a lot of background info on the works of art from all of the cultures, it is hard to follow. It is such a small book, and covers so many cultures and media with small blurbs, that it doesn't do a great job on any of the arts, or relate them to each other. If Ms. Strickland had left out architecture or concentrated more on painting & sculpture it might have been more cohesive."Annotated Mona Lisa" is MUCH better. As a cliff notes for college students trying to remember names and dates, this might work well, as long as they already know the works of art.

Excellent Content... missing an index
As an art educator for almost two decades, I highly recommend this art history time line. I used it as on of my many resources to study for the NBPTS EMCART. Excellent Content... it would be great to have a quick reference index included in the next edition.

Great product...
This little book is a nice addition to our home-school art library. The size is perfect for my boys for handle and they have already enjoyed exploring this book since it arrived today.

A weclome gift
My sister is a high school art teacher. This book was bought for her as a gift. She tells me she has used it in her classroom, so it must be a decent resource.

This is an excellent teaching resource - clearly laid out and very accessible. Lots of multicultural art works in time line.
