awesome for starting up
purchased this set over a month ago. i'll give you the pros and cons... pros- obviously this set is very cheap. there are single pieces of a set that cost as much as you're paying for this whole setup. if you're new to drumming and looking for something to give it a try on (or have a teenage kid wanting to learn), this is perfect. nothing worse than dropping a ton of money on something like this, only to find out you don't really enjoy it as much as you thought you would. it's a great foundation to build on. it was very easy to put together, although i should point out i had my room mate (a drummer) help me with a couple things, such as tuning the heads. despite the large number of people saying the set is garbage, falls apart after a couple weeks, etc. i can only conclude those people were beating the hell out of it, or bought it for their kid, who beat the hell out of it. i've been playing it for a decent period of time and have seen no signs of any parts weakening at all, including the stool, which popular opinion is claiming to be unstable. i should point out i'm a skinny guy, so if you know you're heavy, go ahead and order a different stool just in case. cons- the old saying "you get what you pay for" is kind of true with this set. not a single part of it sounds incredible, but everything is good enough to serve it's purpose. if you have the money, i'd recommend immediately replacing the high hats, and crash that come with it. these parts just don't sound very good, and a decent replacement won't exactly break the bank. i also had just a little trouble with the kick pedal. it had a problem of simply resting about 1 inch away from the bass drum when no pressure was applied to it. some adjustment requiring no extra materials completely fixed the problem. i would include steps to fix this problem here, but it's hard to describe. overall, great purchase that i am very happy with. don't let other reviews discourage you from buying this if you want a starter set. it's perfect for that purpose, and you can upgrade it how you want, when you want. just remember even though it meant to be hit, it is still an instrument. you wouldn't hammer the crap out of a guitar and expect the strings not to break, right? same principal here. hope this helps you.

So far, great purchase
I purchased this set for my 8 year old son for Christmas. He has taken drum lessons and wants to continue - we needed a set for him to learn and practice on. This was the least expensive set I found with decent reviews. My husband put the set together in about 2 hours on Christmas Eve, with no prior knowledge of drums at all. He had some trouble with the high hat - still not working quite right, but I think it's assembly error rather than anything wrong with the product. The drums sound great to us - we aren't musicians and aren't expecting a performance quality product for the money. I think these are perfect for learning and practice. Other reviewers have complained about the cymbals. They do seem a little bit flimsy, but I think they sound fine for a kid practicing in the basement. The price was great. I honestly didn't check in local music stores, so maybe I could have gotten a better deal. The addded shipping cost kind of ruined the super deal the drums seemed to be. However, the set arrived in only a few days time. It came in two large and somewhat heavy boxes. There's no picture on the box, but it says "drum kit" on the outside. Gift givers beware if you want a surprise. My brother-in-law is a drummer and suggested we get mutes for the drums and bamboo sticks to help keep the noise down, or that we wouldn't be able to be in the same room when my son was playing. He was right. We were able to get mutes for only 2 of the drums before the holiday. They make a huge difference and we'll be getting them for the rest of the drums. We've only had the drums for a week, but my son loves them. I love them, too! The set came with everything you need including a pair of sticks and the "throne". Everything is very adjustable - great because a junior set is too small for my son. This is a full size set but can be adjusted so my 8 yr old can use it. I'm happy that it will grow with him. Some reviewers complained about the seat, saying it wasn't sturdy. Seems fine to me. I think we might all take up drumming.

Great Starter Set
After my son started drum lessons and had completed 4 or 5 lessons, his instructor said it was time to get him a drum kit. Nothing was available used. My son actually found this set on Amazon, but I was a bit skeptical. After I read all the reviews, I was still a bit leary, so I asked my son's instructor after showing him this set. He liked it and thought the price was difficult to beat. I bought it. The boxes (there were two) arrived very quickly, and the contents were completely undamaged. One has to build these drums (5 in all, something I had never done before). Now, I build R/C aircraft of all types, so I was not too intimidated. I got my son to assist, mainly so he would learn how they went together, as well. It took about 2 hours to build the entire set, the stands for the cymbal and high hat, and the stool. Everything went together properly; we followed the single page (front and back) of instructions and used the supplied 'key' to tighten all the hold-downs (there are a LOT of them!) for the skins. After it was all put together, my son's instructor offered to 'tune' each drum one at a time per session. So far, the snare and the base drums have been tuned, and they sound fantastic. The 3 toms will get tuned one at a time next. The high hats and the larger cymbal will be replaced eventually for better sounding units, but the kit is quite complete and works extremly well. It makes an excellent beginning set that can be updated and added to as needed. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase. It was a relatively small amount of money to get started effectively (especially when you compare what video games and DS games cost these days). My son is tickled and happy he can progress properly with his developing skills. However, I'm afraid I will need to get him to set up in the garage once the weather warms up a bit; these are a lot louder than I expected (I guess that's a good thing!). Super buy; Super service! Quite happy!

Pro Drummer approved!
I am not a drummer nor am I a professional musician so let's get that out of the way. I bought this for my kids who suddenly became interested in guitars and drumming. The item was as described, and it is indeed a full-sized drum set (according to a friend of mine who is a musician and knows about drums). From a non-musician perspective: 1. Love that the set comes complete to get you going as soon as you finish assembling out of the box. 2. Snare came fully assembled (and somewhat tuned) 3. Assembly was a breeze (for a non DIY dad). My 9yo daughter helped me put it together and it took us under 3 hours from unboxing to hitting our first "drum solo". 4. I have no knowledge of tuning drums so I just played it by ear and listened to the sound of each drum to get a "tone" I am comfortable with without it sounding like an echoing toy drum. 5. Fit and finish of the product looks very well made for a "cheap" set. 6. Cymbals are OK - not sure what that means really. 7. I added a pillow inside the bass to give it more "oomph" - seems to do the trick. 8. Adjusting the drum heads are as easy as inserting the included tool and going on a "STAR" pattern to tighten or loosen the nuts. 9. Comes with DVD instructions but didn't need it because there were plenty of online videos I found - highly recommended to watch first before tackling the assembly. 10. Started playing with the different "levels" of "stretching" the drum heads as my kids where playing them so we are now playing "in tune" sort of. 11. I bought a "stress mat" from Harbor Freight tools so I can sit the drums perfectly without messing with our wood floors. From my professional drummer friend: 1. Kit is amazing for the price. 2. Definitely a beginner's drum set. Not a toy but a serious beginners drum set. 3. For the price, it sounds okay, so long as you don't decide to take it to stage. 4. Easily upgradeable to quality drum heads and cymbals. 5. Able to "tune" it without issues and fit and finish is pretty impressive for this price range. 6. Don't expect to sound exactly in-tune with professional drum kits you hear being played in the songs you hear on the radio. 7. Bass pedal is not designed for "experts" so be gentle, if that's even possible with drummers. 8. I'd buy this if I had very limited budget and want to practice at home or get started. 9. I had my reservations and definitely lowered expectations being that I am a seasoned drummer but I was impressed by the decent sound that comes out of this drum set. 10. Definitely, a great buy!

Very Nice Set
I recently purchased the Gammon Percussion Full Size Complete Adult 5-Piece Drum Set, and I couldn't be happier with my choice! As someone who has been playing drums for a while but needed a budget-friendly option, this set exceeded my expectations. Assembly: The assembly process was straightforward, and the instructions were easy to follow. It took me about an hour to set everything up. All the necessary tools were included, which was a nice touch. Quality: For the price, the quality is impressive. The drums have a solid feel, and the hardware is sturdy. The cymbals might not be top-of-the-line, but they are decent for practice and beginner playing. The drumheads also provide a satisfying sound, especially after a bit of tuning. Playability: This set is perfect for both beginners and intermediate players. The response from the drums is great, and they hold their tuning quite well. The included stool is comfortable, and the stands are adjustable to fit players of various heights. Value: You get a full drum set at an unbeatable price, which is perfect for anyone looking to get started or needing a practice kit. It's a complete package with everything you need to start playing right away. Overall, the Gammon Percussion 5-Piece Drum Set offers excellent value for the money. If you're a beginner or looking for an affordable set to practice on, this is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!

Great drums, Great customer service!
Great beginner drum set, my husband loves it. Comes with 5 drums, a symbol, a high hat, as well as a stool. I believe i'm not the drummer. And some issues with delivery as the base drum came cracked, but customer service responded in a timely manner and resolved my issues happily. The setup was relatively easy and we are overall very happy. 5/5.

Fine for the money...
I purchased my gammon set about 4 months ago, first of all the assembly instructions provided in the box are worthless. I also picked up Tommy Igoe's getting started on drums dvd, which walks you through assembly step by step. I'm going to go through everything about this drum set piece by piece, because some things are great and some things are terrible. The drums shells themselves are made of nato wood, which has similar sonic properties to mahogany so you're going to get good lows out of you're bass drum and floor tom but the rack toms could sound much better. The biggest problem i have with this kit are the bass drum spurs: they aren't quite long enough and I've had to set them on top of a bunched up throw blanket to raise the drum up to where it's supposed to be and keep it from sliding forward on me. Also the rack toms only have 5 lugs each, making it more difficult to tune. I really hate the sound of the snare drum, it's hard to describe but it's most likely due to the choice of nato wood again. I replaced it after about a month with a poplar one that sounds worlds better, at the very least it needs a better head put on it. If the cymbals are a big selling point for you prepare to be disappointed. At first i thought that since it's just me and my friends jamming in the basement i wouldn't care if they didn't sound very good, but not only do these sound bad, the hi-hats actually hold you back when you start trying to experiment with them. They don't vibrate, they wobble, and it's impossible to learn certain techniques with them because you can't tell if you're doing it right or not if it sounds like crap no matter what. Also, the bottom hi-hat started to buckle around the hole after only a few days of playing normally. If you can stand them, great, but if not you're going to find yourself spending around [...] on one of the starter packs from meinl, zildjian, or sabian... The hardware that comes with it is double braced and sturdy. The cymbal stand doesn't have a plastic sleeve, but instead has two small metal sleeves that may cause harm to your cymbals and the threads on it are a nonstandard size so you won't be able to screw anything onto it other than the wingnut that comes with it. The Hi-hat stand is nice, you can rotate the legs around for a double pedal to fit if you get creative and remove a screw, the spring is already feeling like it's losing its bounce though. I have absolutely no complaints about the snare stand, it does the job perfectly with no issues. If you weigh over 150 lbs be prepared to buy a new drum throne too, I weigh 180 and the legs bent up under my weight and the vertical post had to be bent back into shape daily until the whole thing came apart altogether. Looking back I most likely would have been better off buying a shell pack for the same price and getting the hardware separately. I would have paid roughly the same price and would have ended up with a nicer kit. Sure, it's an all inclusive pack, but I ended up having to replace almost all of it... Look at this as a shell pack rather than as a whole kit when comparing prices, and make you're decision with that in mind.

We Got More Then Just Great Drums, We got 100 % Service/Support With Musicians Discount Warehouse
I have never met a more friendly company on Amazon as Musicians Discount Warehouse. I needed to have this delivered on a certain date. I got in contact with them, and within 2 hrs we were in touch. They told me when would be the best date to order it, they said to let them know as soon as I place so they could watch out for it and be sure it got sent. Very friendly. Very helpful and a whole lot more. Now for the drums itself, wow it came to the exact date as they said. Well wrapped for protection. We gave this to a church, so it took a while to check it all out. Everything was inside, great shape. Once the church set it up, we went to see it. Everyone was very happy with it. The blue was a great match. The drummer about 14 who likes to beat the beat, said it was very easy to set up and fine tune. For use in a church the song stays strong, does not over bear the hearing at all. With a chior, it matched just perfect, did not drown the chior out. No matter what the drums may be used for, I think you will be very happy about them. Now that the Pastor is vetry happy and proud to have them in his church. he asked me if we could find a 4 string bass guiltar, well Musicians Discount Warehouse has just the ones they are looking for. We are placing our order for it today, and we are sure they will give us great service and it will be a great product just as the drunms were. Last issue, during our contacts with Musicians Discount Warehouse, they told me if I ever need help with them, or have a problem they will do whatever it takes to solve the issue. Now that is better then any price you pay for an item, service / support number 1 in my books. One last thing the church members say God Bless to you all at Musicians Discount Warehouse, they waited 4 years to find a good deal on drums, glad we could help some.
