A bit vague
Not enough details in my opinion. Once again, everything in the book can be easily found online for free.

Great book! Make this your first woodcarving book
I'm a novice woodcarver. This is the best book I've run across. Everything is extremely clear. There is no guessing about what to do next. I started a simple carving project of my own design before receiving this book. I will finish it then launch headlong into the first Santa project in this book confident I will be able to make a beautiful Santa with the instructions provided. Later: I just finished carving my first Santa character following Cyndi Joslyn's instructions and pattern. I don't agree with the assessment of the one carver who says this book is not for beginners. I'm a beginner and I had no trouble whatever carving the facial features, hands, feet, or any other part of the Santa character. Her instructions are very clear and follow a logical sequence unlike many of the other books I've looked at that essentially give you only a rough outline and expect you to figure out the rest yourself. I've now bought all of Cyndi Joslyn's carving project books and look forward to carving many more of her characters. I wonder if she still gives carving classes. It would be a worthwhile, educational vacation trip to Montana or wherever she's working and teaching to be a participant in one of her classes.

A must for beginning and intermediate Santa carvers.
This is an excellent book and I am thoroughly enjoying each of the projects. Usually carving books don't give good painting details, but this one does. Also, most of the books I have used in the past tend to have all the projects look much the same. I'm amazed at the individuality of each of the 15 projects. One thing that is unique in this carving book is how the patterns are drawn. You need to see the patterns like a draftsman design. But I found this perspective very helpful in developing the carvings. For those who are absolute beginners in Santa carving, I'd suggest the Santa Carving book by Ron Ransom.

Cute Santas
The Santa patterns are very cute. I am a beginning carver and the step by step instructions are easy to understand. The instructions are for only one standing Santa anyone sitting Santa. To make the other Santas, you must modify the instructions yourself, but it shouldn't be that difficult after making the first one.

Though I preferred the finished product of Carving & Painting Christmas Ornaments, the instructions in this book were superior. These are traditional Santa Claus faces but are too sad for me. However, the instructions were excellent and have me working on Santas that will have happy faces. I'm just turning those mustaches up instead of down to imply smiles. I want happy Santas

Love this book of Santas
As someone new to carving I am just trying to get the fundamentals down right now. The illustrations in this book are very good and should be easy to follow. I am so looking forward to carving several of the Santas. I love the different Santas from around the world. Can't wait to get started on them.

Very disappointing as none of the Santa's images are true to the Nationality
Biggest con ever. None of the images t resemble the Santa's from the respective countries. It is a basic standard design with a few variations, but are not authentic Santa's from the USA, Germany or other countries. Do not buy if you believe you are getting authentic images. In addition the desings in general are crude and hugely disappointing

Santa
The book arrived on time and well packaged. However, I have not attempted to do any of the carvings as yet because Limewood is difficult to come by, but the book is highly interesting.
