Excellent Historical/Factual/Narrative Piece!
I totally teared up reading this book!I got it bc I'm doing a unit on bridges and thought it would be a good narrative/historical addition, and my excited two year old wanted to read it, so we did. It was my first time through and I 100% had tears running down my cheeks—my two year old was rapt! Beautiful story, full of historical context, academic vocabulary and beautiful examples of metaphor and allegory. And I definitely learned exciting things that I didn't previously know—for instance, the challenges that gave the Golden Gate the nickname "The Impossible Project" and the fact that one man tackled and overcame—under budget!!! Excellent example of humans coming together to overcome and rich with learning opportunities!Definitely recommend!

Beautiful book
I got this for my son for his homeschool lessons. The book is hardback with beautiful illustrations throughout . I had to get it here because the local library didn't have this book. My son has already read it twice. The boys call my dad Pop,so this book was extra special for us to read.

Good Book
My Husand is an Iron Worker , so I found this book most appropriate for our daughter. It has a great storyline and message for young kids , but also tied in some cool and interesting things about Iron Workers. Best part my daughter makes my husband read it to her all the time calling it Daddy's book!

Great story though sad twist in the middle (bridge accident resulting in multiple deaths), which may not be appropriate for very young kids.

This is a damned fine book. Life's travails are thrown into the binoculars of a child enthralled by his father's work. He stares on in horror as eight men die before his eyes, but through tragedy he learns the value of human life and the overwhelming power of universal empathy.
