Q: can you use it while cooking? My husband is a truck driver and would use it to keep the lid secure while driving down the road and cooking his meal?

I've used it on my Crock Pot while it was on high and it worked great. Until my cat chewed it in half. But yes it's designed to be used while cooking to keep a good seal on the lid and maintain even heat so your husband should be fine to do that!

Q: Why are these so expensive on Amazon when other sites have them for 3.99?
