La Traviata: Libretto Paperback – November 1, 1986

Wonderful, I don't speak or read Italian, but it is fairly easy to follow the score as it has the Italian on the left and English on the right.I have the Toscanini with the NBC Symphony version and it is wonderful!!

Horrible translation! In some places it seeems totally unrelated to the Italian words. As if the translator didn’t know the language or was writing his own operaAll made worse by the texts not facing each other or intuitively aligning in some wayIf you know Italian or are trying to improve your knowledge of it this will frustrate youDelivery was delayed for more than a week without any notice

The Libretto of Traviata is exactly what I wanted, and Amazon made is so easy to purchase. It was published in English and Italian.

This is a Schirmer publication. I would like it much better if the translation from Italian to English were more faithful. I found myself writing in the correct words in some places.

For my purposes the main reason for a libretto is to make it easier to understand the Italian. For that purpose, this libretto was AWESOMELY bad. The HUGE liberties and outright mis-translations made it essentially WORTHLESS to me.

Having ripped my CDs to hard disk and boxed up the originals, I didn't want to go digging through the boxes for the little CD sized librettos which are falling apart due to overuse. The others I bought from the 'Dover Opera Libretto Series' but I couldn't find this one.
