These are the soft mallets youve been looking for.
Fantastic, SOFT mallets. Cymbal Swells, Toms (8"-16"), 22" Wind Gong, all sound sweet with no stick articulation. Floor toms sound like Timpani. Very pleased. Bought them to use on my 9pc kit. Mallets are shown against the 16" Floor tom.

Well worth it.
I play in a college symphonic wind ensemble, and these mallets were exactly what I needed to complete my timpany mallett collection. It has a nice weight and reach. The heads, while being proper cartwheels, are small enough to complete fast drum changes without offering too much resistance. If you're a timpanist that is looking to play quietly, (on that rare occasion when you want to be quiet :D) this is definitely a good choice.

Perfect for cymbal crescendos
I use these mallets (and other Vic Firth mallet models) for drum kit playing. While these are described as very soft, they are more medium soft and are perfect for crescendos on cymbals and some playing on toms. I personally prefer the T1 model ( Vic Firth American Custom® Timpani -- General ) for more general purpose playing, but in a pinch these work very well. In fact, this T2 model may be your best bet if you are seeking mallets that work well across drum kit applications.I love the overall design. For one thing, the entire line of Vic Firth T-series mallets have the same basic dimensions with all but one of the six models using handles that are 14.5 inches long. This kind of consistency makes switching among models easy. Indeed, the handles are perfectly balanced to my hands and have a natural feel. They are the right length for me, although if you are using this for drum kit playing do be aware that they are shorter than most stick models. The head on this mallet is 1.75 inches in diameter so you can consider it to be larger than most of the models in the T-series. It's a lot softer than the more tightly wound cymbal mallets like the Zildjian SDMJO John Riley Double Stick/Mallet Pair , so you will get less projection and more legato notes from this versus the stick/mallet to which I am comparing the head.Overall, this is a well designed mallet that is best suited to the uses I cited above, but can also function as a general purpose mallet in lower volume situations. While I use another brand for sticks and yet another brand for brushes, Vic Firth are the only mallet brand I will use. I personally find them to be the best tool for when I need mallets.
