STANLEY I-Beam Level, Professional, 48-Inch (42-480)

I needed a level to help fix some out-of-plumb doors, and to help when I'm setting up shelves, desks, etc.--just for the odd job here and there. This level is perfect for my needs. It's lightweight, the vials are very easy to read, and the hand-hold areas are comfortable enough for my use. There's a window in the top of the level so you can view the center level bubble from the top; it works great. As you can see in my pictures, the level that you get is actually a bright 'Stanley-yellow', not red. See my pictures ('customer-added pictures') for a couple detail views to get a better idea of how the level looks. Definitely not a bad thing, in my opinion. Either way, the paint on the level has not come off after a few day's use around the house, but even if it does, I don't doubt this level's accuracy or durability. I'll probably have it until the day I die!

I'm a homeowner so I was looking for a nice level that would suit the needs of a homeowner. This was perfect. The price for it was very good with free shipping. The quality of the level isn't bad but it isn't the best either. Like others if I drop it more than 2 feet off the ground I'm afraid that it will break. I'm sure if I would have paid a lot more money I could have gotten a better quality level but I didn't need that. If you are looking to do projects around the house, I recommend getting the 42" and the 24" levels. Sometimes the 42" is too big for small things like frames. I highly recommend Stanley tools. They are made in the US. I own a lot of quality Stanley tools. Note: The picture is NOT what you get. The item is actually yellow as the description states.

This is a sturdy 48" level suitable for construction or DIY projects. The very YELLOW (despite the incorrect product photo) aluminum "I" beam contains three level vials securely attached to the "I" beam with stout plastic housing. The level measures in vertical using either or both of the two vials on the ends of the beam, and measures in horizontal via the center vial which also has a cutout window through the top of the beam allowing it to be viewed from front or atop the beam. (there is NO 45º vial). The aluminum frame makes the weight of this tool much LESS than its physical appearance would suggest, but it is very solid material and would take serious abuse to bend or twist. It is, however, probably better suited to carpentry than masonry projects. The vials are calibrated with TWO level lines on each side of the bubble. This no doubt has a purpose in construction that I am not aware of (though no explanation was offered on the attached product card. I find the double lines unnecessary for my purposes and visually distracting.

I have been using this level for the past few months as I have been framing my basement. The price for this product is very reasonable and initially I had concerns about what quality it would be. This is a no frills level, but it has performed very well for me. I have dropped this product or knocked it over several times and it has not been affected or broken. It has worked consistently over the time I have owned it.

Not sure why there are 1 star reviews on this item. It is lightweight, levels horizontally and vertically and is made by Stanley. For the $13.88 price tag, I'm not sure what else you would want. Someone to hold it for you maybe?? I read a review where the reviewer thought the cutouts for your hands were too sharp, and was afraid of getting cut. I checked this purposely upon receiving it and did not find the cutouts sharp at all. If your hands are that dainty, don't do anything that requires leveling, problem solved. Received promptly too.

Got exactly what I was looking for and initially thought I had a great deal until I found the same level at Home Depot and Walmart for $4.00 less. All in all it really works great even if I paid a little extra. By the way the shipping was awesome arrived within 48 hours or purchasing it on-line.

I'm a handy guy around my house. I'm not framing houses for people or doing anything complex, but I needed a simple, long level to do some work around the house. This fit the bill. It's lightweight, long enough to do what I need, and the level bubbles work just fine. Old technology but it's completely useful. This level doesn't have any bells or whistles, but it works.

Item is missing one of the end caps. Other than that, seem sturdy and worth the price.

This is a good value level, I actually thought it must be plastic at the price, before I read the page properly. Nice surprise it was an aluminium one anyway! Wanted a 4 foot level for a while and grabbed this to throw in the garage just based on price. It's a good level, nothing particularly special and equally nothing really wrong with it at all - the plastic end caps feel a bit cheap, the main level body is light and feels strong enough - I wish it had measurement scale on the top edge, that would be handy but outside of that it's fine and does it's job. Top readable window is handy. At the price I can't complain, it's a cheap/good value aluminium 4 foot level that is no frills, does what its supposed to and will last a diy hobbyist like me for years to come. Good addition to my home diy-er tool collection.

Lightweight & Takes awhile. Level does what it is supposed to do, lightweight, but had dings on it despite being wrapped in bubble wrap. Biggest issue is that I ordered 2 levels and only 1 was delivered. Was charged for 2 though. Contacted seller and they said it was delivered. End of conversation. No the best customer service in this case.

First one came reading incorrectly, Amazon was happy to replace and second was perfect. Love it, very durable! Replaced an old polycarbonate one that broke in half.

I already have a 4 feet level that is made of hard plastic which has all the standard features, but it had one flaw – it was way too heavy. Since, this Stanley was on a lightning deal for 10 bucks I jumped on the deal. This is made of Aluminum and is very light! It’s very attractive in bright yellow which is powder coated so the paint will not chip. There are three vials which are responsive and very clear to read. The plastic ends on each side keep the level from getting damaged. The vials are protected by plastic so it will not get damaged. There is no reading scale on this level but it’s a keeper and gets the job done!
