The Worst Week Of My Life - The Greatest Sitcom for the 21st Century
A wonderful organised family white wedding, a birth, and your baby’s first Christmas is a joy to both a family and their in laws. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case for Howard Steel (Ben Miller) and his new wife long-suffering Mel (Sarah Alexander (who goes from loving and supportive in series 1 to short tempered and angry at Howard’s constant screw ups in Series 2 and the Christmas Special)). Howard is a one man wreaking crew that causes disasters to everything he touches, and various injuries to himself and various members of his in laws. It’s no wonder he has a father-in-law, Dick (played brilliantly by Geoffrey Whitehead) who hates his guts, his mother-in-law Angela (excellently played by Alison Steedman) who thinks he is a sexual deviant, Mel’s sister Sophie (Emma Pierson) who thinks he’s a prat, and Dick’s Army Obsessed brother Fraser (excellent played by Ronald Pickup) who can’t stand Howard either and constantly attacks him with different army attack techniques. However, Howard’s Assistant Eve (played brilliantly by Janine Duvitski) and his dad Ron (played by John Benfield) always comes to his rescue, but they also screw up causing more embarrassment and disasters for poor Howard.Howard tries his best to make amends, but it leads to more disasters happening making his in laws hating him even more. Both the main cast and the supporting cast gel together in this extremely funny comedy of errors, and I highly recommend this comedy series to everyone.

Hilarious, definitely worth a look.
One of the funniest programmes I've seen. Wish more had been made.

Watch Out, Howard's About!
This is a really good series, and contains the whole box and dice. By this, I mean series one, which covers the week up to the wedding, series two, the week leading up to the birth of their first child, and, best of all, The Worst Christmas Of My Life, which contains fewer episodes, but what it doesn't have in running time it more than makes up for in laughs. Ben 'Armstrong And Miller' Miller stars as Howard, and Sarah 'Green Wing' Alexander stars as his long suffering fiancée/wife, Mel. Howard has to be the most unfortunate person on the planet, because everything that could possibly go wrong in his life, well, does, especially during these trying weeks which are stressful enough for anyone! From engagement rings disappearing down into sewers, to mad ex girlfriends causing chaos, Howard's got it all to do, stumbling from one disaster to another. And Mel's well off parents, played by the wonderful Alison 'Pride and Prejudice' Steadman, and Geoffrey 'Not Going Out' Whitehead, are a great source of comedy too, as their reactions are priceless! I read somewhere that the best acting, is reacting, and I think that's what this comedic gem has in abundance. Just brilliant! By the way, you might spot the actor from Bridget Jones's Diary, who calls her Brenda, starring as the vicar in The Worst Christmas Of My Life. Just in case you were trying to place him.

Best purchase I've made in a while!
Absolutely LOVED every minute of this box set - had me laughing til my sides hurt at some of the situations and mishaps. Saw a lot more of Ben Miller than expected, no complaints there. ;) Ben Miller was amazing at portraying the unlucky Howard Steel, but all the main characters played their roles to perfection. Definitely the best dvd purchase I've made in a while, can highly recommend this box set.

The Best DVD Set Of My Life
Whilst I fell in love with Sarah Alexander the first time I saw her on television I had not seen one episode of this series until I stumbled on ten minutes of one on a cable TV repeat. I had to buy the DVD and ended up buying this collection from Amazon. It is the best dvd set I have bought. Whilst our hapless hero encounters more ridiculous situations than anyone would in real life, each one is simply a tremendously funny observation of life at its most ridiculous. It is almost 'Frank Spencer' although our hero has a higher intelligence and the humour is less 'slapstick'. I have no doubt that every viewer can identify many if not all characters as 'people they know'. That makes the humour all the more believable. The casting is wonderful. Ben miller is deservedly flavour of the month; Sarah Alexander is fast becoming, if not there already, one of our best 'sitcom' comedians (certainly the most attractive) and not one member of the cast could be improved on.I laughed and you will laugh from start to finish. You will predict much of what happens but it will still be extremely funny. This set is thoroughly recommended and will be one of the best buys you will make.

Laugh out loud with this series
This is one of the best comedy programmes I have ever seen. It never dates and it is a brilliant, well-acted, well-written series. I would recommend watching it one or two episodes at a time because if you don't you will be sore laughing. It's not 'silly' comedy, its comedy at its best.

Not DI Richard Poole
I bought this because it had Ben Miller in it, who was great in Death in Paradise. Howard Steel is no Richard Poole. Instead of quiet competence this Howard Steel character is openly incompetent and exceptionally unlucky. This doesn't appear to be because of the acting, but the script. It was like watching Frank Spencer without the Oooh Bettys.
