Better than expected!
Spent a lot of time researching all the options on Amazon. Picked this particular HA based on the ability to program and use the App. Out of the box, the unit would not turn on. The enclosed battery was dead. I might suggest a few extra be included to avoid having to run out and get fresh ones. Once I got a working batter (while standing in Walgreens with the sales person) the until turned on. However, prior to that, I spend the greater part of 24 hours working on the App issue. Here is what I learned:1. remove HA from package and insert battery in slot. The door that holds the better is very very tight. I struggled with that for at least 15 minutes holding the unit in a variety of positions and resorting to the manual for pictures. The trap door opens "down" away from the top..and the battery will fall out and it's SMALL. Be careful when you're opening and shutting it and if it ends up on floor, be sure to pick it up and keep from animals, babies, etc. Correct placement of the battery will let you shut the door. However, the door can be jammed and it will crack the unit. Do not do that. The "plus" mark on battery should face up. Door should close with a snap.Once you have a good battery, you will hear a series of beeps...up and running!2. Now, my issue came with the APP. I got the unit to work and had sound in it, but after I downloaded the APP, the Sound Wear app would crash when trying to "discover" the HA. I must have pushed the SW app 100 times...I researched the APP, I shut my phone on and off, I removed battery dozens of times...No connection. I unpaired my AirPods, Apple Watch...etc...Nope...I packaged until to send back. I also looked at all reviews and did not see anything specific to the APP issue. It just did not work! After 2 days, I was bummed and more than frustrated.3. While out and about and still wearing the hearing aid, as I did get some amplification, I tried the App again...voila...it opened and recognized the HA...I was IN! I was able to pick different modes, volume, slide for frequencies, etc...went to a soccer game and heard my grand kids chatting...visited my daughter at a noisy fast food restaurant, not too bad. I was thrilled...4. Went back in house...App crashed...bummer...Walked outside...App worked...Obviously, the Bluetooth connection has issues. I know nothing about Bluetooth, but my guess is that I have several devices that are likely competing for that signal. Once I am outside, away from these other devices, the App will work. Not the most convenient solution, but at least I know it works.5. I have an appointment with an audiologist and an ENT this week. No doubt, they will fit me for the expensive HA's once I get tested. I do have a barometer of what a OTC unit sounds like and likely will hang on to this as a back up...but perhaps I can help other that are confused about what to order.Pros: very little feedback, decent App once it works, can dial in the volume and frequencies, and it's comfortable in the ear, small, and light weight.Cons: finicky App, manual doesn't address trouble shooting which would help those not trained in the devices, battery door very stiff and difficult to open. I'd suggest making that part of the "out of the box" instructions and perhaps, include an on line video on set up and battery placement.I have edited this review 3 times...adding stars each time...if there was a direct phone number or help desk, that would be awesome, too.

Outstanding Hearing Amplifiers !
My wife has had 4 different sets of hearing amplifiers (HA) over the years. The first set was the usual multi-thousand $ affair purchased with high hopes, which rapidly declined as that 30-day guarantee period passed, replaced by increasingly impatient and often disrespectful service. The next two sets were by different mfrs, much lower price but in the end, equally unsatisfactory. This fourth (different type, mfr, model and vendor) HA set from ToolsDownUnder has been refreshingly different. This particular HA is a bluetooth-programmable type with a free downloadable and very easy-to-use app that allows one to test ones' own hearing in ones' own home using ones' own Android smartphone. The app automatically programs the respective HA using the data gained from that test. These HAs actually adjust/program the frequency response of each HA to the respective hearing test result for each ear. This arrangement requires no audiologist and no audiometry tech. I am aware that there are the usual disclaimers that this HA is "... not a substitute for an audiologist"..... but honestly, the results were outstanding, and my wife now hears great. (Unit has 4 push-button selectable modes for different environments/situations). Other great bonus's include 1. Terrific and very responsive customer service from TolsDownUnder, and 2. No audiologist office attitude or disrespect, no audiologist pre-purchase hard-sell or post-purchase indifference. Buy these. Now.

They are controlled by your phone but cannot stream or use like Bluetooth
I did a one week trial of hearing aids through my insurance company hoping they would have a good discount. The ones I tried were good but were 1,950 each. A bit out of my price range an was looking for something that was more budget friendly but got me close to the same results. I was also wanting I could control the volume on cause they can be a bit over stimulating at times. I chose these because I can control and customize on my phone. Much like a radio equalizer you can optimize it for your hearing. Happy with the fast shipping, cost, comfort and overall quality of this product

Surprised
For two years I wore a pair of Sa...Cl... $4,200 hearing aids. Not impressed. Paid $400 more for an extended warranty. On losing one twice I found out they only replace them (it) once. So I went without hearing aids for a year. To me $4,600 is an inheritance. In frustration of not having hearing aids, I concluded that I could just as easily loose a $290 hearing aid, but I could afford to replace a $290 unit instead of a $2,100. Following me. I decided to shop the internet and ordered a pair of AuriClear by Tool Downunder. Frustrating first day with the new hearing aids in learning to use and adjust the devices. Holy s... Surprise. Day two: overwhelmingly happy with the $580 pair of hearing aids. They are everything the ad said they were and at this typing are working flawlessly. No more what...what...what. I will update this post in 90 days.

Failed
Purchased in April 2020 - shortly after the return window closed this unit failed. I would need to replace a battery ever 30 minutes. I tried batteries from different sources - no help. Good luck reaching the company - they are in Australia. I did find their website, and used the email contact form. Several messages, zero replies. I contacted Amazon and was impressed at their helpfulness. While I was on the phone with Amazon, they contacted the seller, and I was advised the seller would contact me directly within 3-4 business days. That did not happen. I called Amazon back, and they refunded my purchase, even though the return window had closed. Now - about the hearing aid itself - When it worked I was impressed. Good fit and there is an app that allows you to custom set frequencies. And this even provides you with your own hearing exam, then the unit adjusts to the results.I would buy another, but am reluctant only due to the lack of ability to contact the seller directly.
