Venta Humidifier Water Treatment Additive

We have forced hot air heating which tends to dry out the air in the winter. Without Venta aiwasher I wake up with a sore throat due to dryness, with Venta airwasher my throat feels fine. I use tap water in the airwasher and we have hard water from a well. I use water treatment as it was recommended for the proper running of the humidifier to prevent formation of calcium deposits on the walls and in the turbines. I see sediment on the bottom of the tank and rinse it every 2 weeks. For cleaning of the tank I use Simple Green cleaner (one gallon concentrated solution is pretty economical). One thing I was not sure about before I got the big 35 oz bottle of the solution for the first time is how I was going to measure out the right amount of the solution for each application. Once I got the bottle I saw that the label has lines that show the amount to use each time. Each dose is 3.4 oz and should be added to water every 10 to 14 days. There are 11 doses according to the marking, which works out to about 6 months. If you humidify for less than 6 months a year the bottle can last more than one season. However the shelf life of the product is marked this way: storage life is 30 months if not opened, and 12 months after opening. I am not sure 12 months a real shelf like or is Venta trying to make an annual sale to each customer. Note that this water treatment is not a replacement for Venta Airwasher Cleaner (8.5 oz) which needs to be used once a year before I store the unit for the summer when we don't use it. I have been using Venta evaporative humidifiers for several years now during the cold season (two of them) to keep my musical instruments, plants, and living space properly humidified. This water additive has always kept them operating cleanly. I add it once a week, even though I fill the humidifiers with water daily. Recently, it was unavailable on Amazon, so I decided to try a different brand. That was a mistake. Lots of crud in the water even though I added it 2 to 3 times a week. I was so glad to see when it was back in stock. Great humidifiers, and great water additive as well.

I’ve had 2 Venta humidifiers. With the first one, I didn’t use an additive. The mineral build-up was significant, and had to be laboriously cleaned from the base and the main wash drum every week. After 3 years, the build-up was so heavy on some of the motor parts, it just stopped working. With my 2nd Venta I use this additive, and it’s been night and day! After 2 years, there’s virtually no mineral build-up, and cleaning is as simple as rinsing and wiping down the visible parts every 2 weeks. Over time I’ve figured out that using half the recommended amount of the additive is just as effective, so one bottle lasts 10 months with the small Venta model and heavy use. Yes, it seems pricey, but it will extend the life of your Venta and save you a ton of time!

The Venta manual indicates this liquid is necessary for proper evaporation from the Airwasher (it makes the water sheet across the gaps in the wheels), and that seems to be true. I ran my airwasher with plain water (rinsed out), and a nearby humidity sensor showed 30-31% even after extended operation. After changing out the water and adding a dose of the treatment, the humidity sensor's reading rapidly moved up to 40-42%. The liquid is also recommended to prevent mineral (and bacteria?) buildup in the Airwasher. It's largely odorless, and the label states it contains: water, quaternary ammonium chlorides, water softening agent The label also states a 30 month shelf-life and 12 month expiration after opening. I'm not clear what in the ingredients will expire that rapidly, and it seems a little convenient to Venta's marketing for the bottle to expire in time for the next cold-weather season. There are markings on the side of the label indicating 10 "doses" of the contents. At 10-14 days per dose, that works out to 4-5 months, plenty for winter in most of the US. There's actually enough extra liquid above and below the markings for another 1-2 doses, so it should go 5+ months easily. Since I typically humidify only 3 months a year, a single bottle could last me most of 2 seasons (aside from the labeled shelf-life). Unlike some older reviews, I got the 35oz bottle as pictured on this listing at this time. I mark it down a star for the Venta requirement to use this somewhat pricey consumable, and the arbitrary shelf life. Recommended, since it is required for proper Airwasher functionality.

I am using an LW45 model of the Venta humidifier. Every day I have to add about 1 ½ to 2 gallons of tap water into the unit. You do need treat the water with the Venta Airwasher water treatment additive and it takes 3.5 ounces of this liquid to treat the 3 gallons of water that the unit holds. You only add the treatment every 10 to 14 days and then you should dump the water and then clean the unit, refill it with three gallons of fresh water and add in the water treatment. The unit comes with enough of the treatment liquid to last you about 4 weeks. I ordered this bottle to maintain the unit in top operating condition. It is 35 ounces so it is enough for 10 treatments or about 20 weeks. I just set my smart phone to trip an alarm for me to clean the unit, change the water and add in the required 3.5 ounces of the water treatment additive. I remove the water wheels and rinse them with fresh water. I wash out the humidifier tub. I clean the fan assembly. I refill the unit with 3 gallons of fresh tap water and then I add in this solution. It really is simple and easy. The cleaning fluid does the following things: * It helps to maintain a hygienic environment * It improves the evaporation process by making the water cling to the wheels drawing more water out of the reservoir to allow it to evaporate * It prevents calcium deposits * It prevents unpleasant orders The front bottle label has graduations on it for every 3.5 ounces that you need to use. This is a good product and it works well and I rated it at 5 stars. I like the humidifying unit and I like that this cleaning solution does a good job keeping it fresh and clean.

It's a bit expensive, and it may look like Venta's just trying to sell you a questionable extra, but don't try to run your Venta Airwasher without it. It acts as a wetting agent, among its other more subtle effects, to utilize the full area of the machine's rotating plates. Without it, water will only appear on the plates in droplets. The smaller area of exposed water surface will result in much lower evaporation efficiency and disappointing humidifier performance. That will contribute to scale accumulation on the plates and inside surface of the tank, as well, further reducing the machine's efficiency and leading eventually to a difficult cleaning process. I'm less certain about the need for Venta's cleaning solution, also expensive. I pretreat the water I put in the Venta to zero ppm dissolved solids (see my review of the ZeroWater ZP-010 10 Cup Pitcher), thereby eliminating scale accumulation. Apart from that, others have reported being able to clean their Airwashers with simple vinegar, which is a mild acid that dissolves scale. It may just be slower than the proprietary cleaning solution.

Pay $550 for a Venta airwasher because it has no filters low maintenance. Only thing have buy is water additive, which is fine. In 2022, I paid $20 for 1 liter; the price keeps going up. In 2025, 1 liter costs $30. It sucks, but cost everything is going up, and now in 2026 it's $25 for half-size bottles. That cost isn't going up anymore, just you ripping off people now.

My Venta air cleaner has solved the dry air problem in my sleeping space. It is constantly on when windows cannot be opened. My air cleaner has been used for 5 years with absolutely no problem. I use the Venta 6-month cleaner and the bi-monthly water treatment additive after cleaning my unit as per directions. That is essential. Amazon sellars charge much more for the bi-monthly water treatment additive and the 6-month cleaner. Home Hardware gives free deliveries and is much less expensive.

Does exactly what is supposed to do in our well used Venta humidifier when following instructions. We use well water that is a bit "hard" and as such mineral residue would normally be an issue. This product keeps the residue in suspension until time to clean. Just remember, it only works properly if instructions are followed and the recommended amounts are used. Would and will definitely buy again.
