‎Newhouse Hardware CHM2 Door Chime, White

I rarely give anything 5 stars, but I couldn't find any negatives about this doorbell chime. I received it today, and it took me about 15 minutes to install it -- including the time to remove my old chime. It was less expensive than what appears to be an identical doorbell under another name, but it works well and is easy to hear. It also has a pleasing, contemporary look, unlike my old 38-year-old doorbell chime.

Worked with wired Wyze door bell, also.

Works good. Easy to install. My only complaint is there isn’t enough room under the cover to put the little dongle you need for the nest doorbell. So I had to stick it on the outside of the case.

Our old doorbell chime had been sounding so sad, but since it still worked I just had it on my list of tasks to have our handyman do when the list was long enough to call him out for. I finally got tired of hearing that sad dong (it lost it's "ding" a long time ago) and ordered this. I called our handyman and he was away on vacation. I decided to give it a shot myself. It took me longer to unbox the chime, bring the ladder into the house and grab my screwdriver and wire stripper (I didn't even need that) than it did to swap out the old chime with this new one. It seriously just took the time to undo the 2 wires from the old chime, mount the new chime to the wall, then attach the wires to the new chime. I'm not sure if it matters, but when I took the old chime down, I took note of which wire went to the "trans" connector and which wire went to the chime connector. It was as simple as then just connecting those marked wires to the new chime. The faceplate cover just snaps on and has a clean, low profile and unobtrusive shape to it. My quick and easy swap-out was helped by the fact that the footprint of the old chime was nearly the same as the footprint of this new chime, so no patching or painting touchups were needed. The chime is clear, has a very pleasant tone, is loud enough to hear, yet not glaring or harsh. Nutshell . . . I am so happy with the new chime, and very proud of myself for doing this myself too.

I currently have a digital doorbell chime, and within the past couple months, it stopped working when people would physically ring the doorbell. However, it would randomly ring at odd times of the night. It only rang after it got dark out, so I’m wondering if maybe there is some change in the humidity affecting the digital ringer. Anyways… I thought it was a problem with my doorbell security system (the button/camera), maybe alerting me that the battery was low, but when I unscrewed the doorbell, it was hard wired. I called the security company to come fix it. They arrived with a brand new button, installed it, and couldn’t get it to work with the digital ringer. The installer then told me that sometimes digital chimes don’t like to work with camera doorbells, and recommended this very same chime to me. Like he physically looked it up on my phone and handed it back to me. Dude was cool. He let me keep the new camera doorbell as well, even though the problem is with the chime. He then explained that sometimes when you ‘reboot’ digital chimes, they take a few hours to start working correctly again. I didn’t think that was actually true at all, but it was. The next day, I got a person who pressed the doorbell, and the digital chime worked flawlessly. It has been working since. Not sure why I wrote that whole story out with no actual review of the product (aside from the specific recommendation from the tech) but I did. I haven’t returned this mechanical chime because I’m pretty sure the digital one will go out again, in which case I’ll install this one. It seems well-packaged, very sturdy, good quality, and I’m not particular about the volume level, so I’m sure this will work just fine.

I installed a new Ring Wired Doorbell Pro and noticed a Level 3 power output (low power) appearing in the Device Health portion of the app. The low power output appeared to be negatively impacting the video quality. So I decided to update my 25 year old chime. As part of that process, I noticed the transformer was directly behind the chime and was undersized for video doorbells at only 16VAC/10VA. So I decided to upgrade the transformer to 16VAC/30VA at a cost of $20. After that upgrade, the Ring Wired Doorbell Pro power output became optimal at Level 1. Another reviewer mentioned there wasn’t space available within this chime to attach the Ring “puck” — but that was easily solved by placing the “puck” directly over the chime wiring and lightly holding it in place with just a little masking tape. This chime box was also large enough to cover the existing electrical box, so no painting / touchup was required. The 2 tone chime is plenty loud. I also enabled Alexa integration with the Ring Wired Doorbell Pro, so Alexa provides person / package voice alerts even when the doorbell button / chime isn’t activated. Overall, after executing the above process, I’m very pleased with the combined performance of the Ring Wired Doorbell Pro and this chime. Upgrading the transformer solved the Ring doorbell’s power output deficiency issue, and was easily accomplished with basic electrical wiring skills.

Replacing my old chime with this one was easy. The chime is old-fashioned in its design but the tune sounds pretty good. I reused my existing push button but had to remove the diode as it would otherwise constantly 'pushing'. I am not sure if the diode has gone bad or not. But removing it solved the problem. I just wish there was a way to control the volume. It's a bit loud for my taste. The cover design is also very poor. It's flimsy, and takes lots of cajoling to replace it after the installation of the base is done. Actually I was done with cajoling and had to force it really hard to attach it in the end. And why in the world do you need FOUR screws to fasten this little device to the wall?

This is my third doorbell in 20 years on my house. Replaced the original mechanical doorbell with a digital one from Home Depot. My digital one lasted about five years and bought the dust. Hard to beat a mechanical bell for reliability. Moved back to this mechanical doorbell. Paid easily half of what I paid for my digital and I'm betting this one lasts 3x+ longer. As a bonus, this bell has that classic ding dong tone! Be advised - if you are replacing a digital doorbell and have a simple old school push button by the door, you will need to remove the diode in the actual doorbell button itself. Leave the transformer wires connected the same after you remove the diode. The diode is usually black with a silver stripe. It bridges two terminals in the button housing. A Google of "doorbell diode picture" will reveal all the details and photos if you need them. If you own a Ring, you will need to go into the mobile app device settings and set your ring to a mechanical doorbell type. The setting is deeply buried and it may take you some time to find it. My current version of the app has it under: Hamburger Menu (upper left)->Devices->Front Door (or whatever your Ring is called)->Device Settings->General Settings->Doorbell Chime Type. I suspect the Ring website has similar but I didn't look. Other odds and ends. This doorbell requires four screws to mount. It includes wall anchors and screws. A little annoying since my old doorbells only took a single screw and I ended up drilling holes. The hole for the transformer wires to poke through is in the upper left corner of the back plate. My old bells were centered on the plate and of course the wall had been painted and I have pictures just below my doorbell. Meaning I would've had to move the pictures and touch up the paint to use the upper left hole. I ended up drilling a new hole in the backplate in the center and fishing the wires behind the solenoid plungers to cover the unpainted area and avoid my pictures. Ultimately no big deal, just something I hit that you might care about. In the end took 20 minutes to install and the new bell looks better than my old one to boot! Very pleased.

Loud enough and works well

This is a great replacement for an old chime box. When I installed a new smart doorbell, our chime box made strange chattering noises. I had the transformer at the electrical panel replaced, and I bought this doorbell chime box to replace the old one. This more modern-looking chime box is large enough to replace the old chime box. No wall painting required. The original plugs and screws did not have to be replaced; the new chime box fits perfectly. There is no more midnight electrical chattering. We are very satisfied and recommend this product.

Works well and most importantly, works with Google Hello. Simple, clean lines and good for a high ceiling. Quite large, overall.

after asking many questions on Amazon and getting fantastic answers, I finally installed this and it works. Looks so modern and clean and it's quite loud too.
