Kinda. The base is metal, but the sides are cardboard with a wax lining interior. Mine was banged up a little when it arived, but still entirely useable.

While the expiration date will vary from order to order, Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening has a shelf life of 24 months from the day of production, as referenced as the Best When Used By date. Once opened, we suggest using it with 12 month or by the Best When Used By date, whichever comes first, for the best quality. Hope this helps!
