Espada Y Daga: The Sword & Dagger Fighting Art

This is an ok introduction to Kali, or Escrima or whatever you want to call it. It isn't over the top fabulous, and there isn't anything in it extra special or that I didn't already know from a few months of introductory classes, but it does have a lot of the drills in it, which is good in case you forget. A few of the exercises or drills are sort of hard to follow from the pictures, the one person drills, it would really help if they had pictures of the moves interacting, instead of solo. I was expecting something a little more advanced, but I like a lot of the discussion in the beginning, and it is well explained for the most part.

As a long time practitioner of various martial arts, including Doves Paras Arnis, I found this to be an extremely well researched and written reference. It is the type of book that should be viewed as an true instructional side that can be studied at a coffee shop while you highlight and take notes or as a true companion that accompanies you during to practice session. Well done Dan Anderson.

i have studied the martial arts for 45 years now. i was looking for a definitive guide to the filipino art of arnis. i chose the books by dan anderson because i am familiar with his years of training under remy presas and the quality of his work in the amercian freestyle book he wrote previously. with the collection of dan's books i was not let down. i have only glanced through them briefly since receiving them but i know that they will help me further my skills in the filipino system of arnis. and then some.

This book gives lots of great information, but to me sometimes the pictures were difficult to follow and weren't descriptive enough. Still a really good buy.

No DVD. Disappointed. Book is good.
