Onsior is a coxib NSAID that is rapidly absorbed, persists at the site of inflammation and is rapidly cleared from the bloodstream. Is Onsior safe? Onsior has been shown to be well-tolerated when administered at a dose of 2 mg/kg (injection and tablets) to dogs, and at a dose of 2 mg/kg (injection) and 1 mg/kg (tablets) to cats for up to a maximum of 3 days. Is Onsior effective? Onsior has been shown to be effective at controlling the postoperative pain and inflammation associated with soft-tissue surgery in dogs greater than 5.5 lbs and younger than 4 months of age, and orthopedic surgery, ovariohysterectomy and castration in cats greater than 5.5 lbs and younger than 4 months of age, for up to a maximum of 3 days. Is Onsior convenient? Because the injectable formulation has identical dosing for dogs and cats, surgical protocols can be streamlined and may reduce the risk of dosing errors. The availability of both injectable and oral formulations make Onsior convenient to administer in the hospital and at home.
