Mojave Desert Wildflowers: A Field Guide To Wildflowers, Trees, And Shrubs Of The Mojave Desert: A massive amount of great information, well organized and consistently presented, with color photographs, all on high quality semi-gloss paper. Though I'm primarily interested in the animals & rocks of the Mojave, I bought this volume to become somewhat knowledgeable about the plant life, some of which is (not obviously) potentially harmful to the touch. It also helps me in discussions with other fans of the desert. Highly recommended; an essential reference in my Mojave desert library.

I had traveled to Death Valley in mid March 2016 for the Super Bloom. I photographed every flower I cam across, and probably missed a few. Then was time to identify them. I saw this book on Amazon, and thought it the best of all the desert flower books offered, and downloaded it to my Kindle. I believe all but one of the flowers in Death Valley I was able to identify. The book is divided into sections according to colors, each flower is noted to its blooming season, habitat and range. The introduction tells about the Mojave Desert, topography, soils, past and present vegetation, past human use of the different tribes known to the area, early explorers, history. Even what makes the colors of the flowers. Oh, gosh, way too much to tell here. If you're ever going to take a trip to the desert, especially in the spring or fall when these flowers are blooming, you've got to take along this book. The photos are in color and top quality, in my opinion. I know what's on my itinerary for a future road trips back to the desert and I won't go without this book.

This is a great book for identifying desert wildflowers. It is one of the most complete books out there. The book is color coded to make flower identification easy. The one downside to this book is the photos are low rez. Some of the pictures are very clear but many need to be redone. As you get out into the field you will figure out that you need 2 books, photos you took your self and the Internet to correctly identify many of the flowers. There are a lot of flowers that look similar so you need to look at many different aspects of the plant to correctly identify it. The text is great with clear plant details, habitat, as well as bloom seasons. I found this book to be very helpful.

This is a very comprehensive list of what you'll find in the Mojave National Preserve as well as Joshua Tree National Park. It is organized by color which is helpful in identifying plants if you're an amateur like me.

I bought this before a road trip to the Mojave Desert. It is arranged by colors of the blooms of the flowers. There is also a section on green and brown shrubs. I like the size for traveling but would have found it more useful if it had a spiral binding. The index is good and there is a chapter with good explanations of plant parts. I was able to use this book to learn more about desert plants and to identify some of the plants I came across.

This book has nice pictures and good information but I really don’t like that it’s organized by flower color and not family. Makes it pretty annoying to use professionally when when you’ve got like Boraginaceae scattered in like 4 different sections through out the book. I get that maybe it’s useful for beginners but in the long run I think it’s more useful for beginners to learn about the plant families and their defining characteristics rather than depend on flower color, that’s just lazy. Ok rant over sorry ha!

Finally an easy way to figure out what I'm looking at....I'm an amatuer tour guide of the outdoors, and I really needed this helpful resource...

Excellent book on Mojave Desert Wildflowers and plants. I use itas my go to reference at my Pinon Hills home. It would have been better is there were photos of plants in their habitat and not necessarily up close photos.
