Very detailed with beautiful photography! A complete pre-requisite course for the Marquetry beginner!
I purchased "Woodworker's Guide to Veneering & Inlay", "Marquetry Course" and "The Fine Art of Marquetry: Creating Images in Wood Using Sawn Veneers" together at the same time. All three are quite beautiful in terms of photography and packed with very useful, detailed knowledge. I started out reading "Woodworker's Guide to Veneering & Inlay" first. It contains a great deal of information about the creation of veneer and inlay materials. This was an excellent lead in to the "Marquetry Course". This book discusses a number of projects in increasing complexity. I then read "The Fine Art of Marquetry: Creating Images in Wood Using Sawn Veneers". I found this book to be quite detailed both in direction and step-by-step photographs. If you cannot create the basic project as outlined in this book you should not blame the book. Taking nothing away from the other two books, if you can only purchase one, I would start with "The Fine Art of Marquetry: Creating Images in Wood Using Sawn Veneers". But I highly recommend all three!

Good info
This is a wonderful book for the basics of working with veneer. There is a bit more history and how veneer is made than I really an interested in . I think a few more projects would have been more appealing to me but still a good book. I would recommend this book lots if good stuff.

Love this book!
Inspiring. Simply inspiring. The pictures at the beginning of the book of the furniture built by Mr. Benson are wonderful. Is it art? Is it furniture? In fact, this book is so well written, clear, informative... and did I say inspiring? that I am ordering his Woodworker's Guide to Bending Wood: Techniques, Projects and Expert Advice for Fine Woodworking as well!If you want to learn about veneering, do yourself a favor and get this book!

Great book!
This book is great for beginners or more advanced woodworkers. It is very complete from wood properties, through different species of wood and why a particular wood works best, to very clear step-by-step instructions. I have already learned things I did not know, and I haven't even started a project yet. I recommend this book for anyone that wants to try inlay or veneering, or someone who would like to push themselves.

Love it...
I reviewed this book for the SAPFM newsletter. If you want to try veneering, this is the place to start. In fact, it may be the place you finish! I've taken hands-on veneering courses. and this book pretty much covers it all. Try it, practice the examples, and learn a new skill.

Very Informative and easy to understand.
The tradition of inlays and veneering is an exciting and enjoyable way to create great looking furniture or even to repair antiques. This book does a great job of explaining the techniques and basics of this art.

Good veneering reference book.
I was hoping for a good beginners guide to veneering and this is a little more developed. It does explain some of the basic steps in veneering but seem more in line for some one who has dome veneering before. But sill a good reference book. Wish there were more basic learning projects.

A new challenge
Having decided to broaden my woodworking horizons, I chose to try my hand at veneering. This book - judging by the title - seemed the obvious choice. However, it wasn't as comprehensive as I expected it to be and assumed too much of the reader's experience. I would have liked to have seen more pictorial 'how to's and tips. That said, it is an introduction to veneering for me and will be helpful as a reference as I gain more confidence. I am a self taught woodworker/hobbyist and I am sure I will learn the hard way with veneering but I will refer to the book when I need to.

For beginners only.
The low price seemed too good to resist. However, don't bother unless you are a beginner. It is full of colour photos and the text is easy to follow but is very basic. I thought 'inlay' would refer to classic inlay lines but Benson means parquetry inlay - a bit misleading.
