Until fairly recently, machining has been a high-cost manufacturing technique available only to large corporations and specialist machine shops. With today’s cheaper and more powerful computers, CNC milling and 3D printing technology has become practical, affordable, and accessible to just about anyone. Tabletop CNC machines are every hobbyist’s dream, providing the tools needed to cut and shape materials such as glass, wood, plastics, and aluminum. In CNC Milling for Makers , author Christian Rattat explains how CNC technology works and he walks you through the entire milling process: starting with a blank piece of material, Rattat takes you step by step through to a finished product. Rattat offers advice on selecting and purchasing the best machine for your own particular needs. He also demonstrates how to assemble a machine from a kit and explains all the steps required to mill your first project. Moving past the basics, Rattat introduces a variety of cutting tools and provides hands-on examples of how to use them to mill a wide variety of materials. Review: Amazing book for School Fab Lab / Makerspace - This book is fundamental for CNC milling introduction and intermediate workshop. We are using step craft in our school fablab and this book is must have for CNC milling station

Great Stepcraft CNC book, not a general CNC maker's book.
As mentioned by others, this book covers mostly the stepcraft CNC. If the title would have been different, this book could reach the audience it has been written for, step craft users, and maybe avoid some disappointed readers who expect something else. If you are a stepcraft owner, you wouldn't be disappointed by this book, I would rate it 4 stars. It has some detailed colour pictures and illustrations, and is a great introduction into CNC. It explains the the various tools/cutters that are available, and has a detailed explanation about feeds and speeds.

Good intro
A good book, but it needs more general information rather than specific CAM software and brand of machine explained. Altogether, a good introduction.

Mostly an assembly manual for a machine I don’t and won’t own.
There are small bits of generally-useful information, and a ton of material relating to a specific machine. I’d rather have gotten the general information from a general book so I didn’t pay for the 85% of the book that’s irrelevant to me. It’s my own fault; I didn’t examine it closely enough before purchase because of the general-sounding title. Oh well.
