For home cooks, Stephen Harris, the chef at the UK's #1 restaurant, The Sportsman, shares the age-old and modern techniques to perfect 50 British classics. From all appearances, The Sportsman, in Whitstable, Kent, is a standard English seaside pub. Following years of hard work, Stephen Harris has transformed this bucolic locale into an internationally acclaimed restaurant serving innovative regional cuisine that has earned it the top spot in Britain - and a cult following around the world. The simple, stylish recipes in Harris's debut cookbook epitomize all that's great about British cooking, and showcase his pared-back style, while his personal writings and memorabilia provide rare insight into an extraordinary life. Review: Great Book! - Love this book! Inspiring story behind The Sportsman and great recipe to follow. Review: The personality of the restaurant is captured in this book - One of the most delightful cook books I know telling the story of how this unpromising pub in it's remote location became one of the most popular restaurants in the country thanks to the owners' dedication to local produce and building a loyal and happy team, also chiefly of locals. Beautiful photographs of the area and, need I say, the (fairly) simple but brilliantly inventive recipes based on the most important ingredient of all fine cooking: the best (local) produce treated with respect. Nice read and recipes
Great book. Been to the sportsman a few times. Good to read how he started out and all the old pictures. Recipes are quite easy to follow, I like the home cured bacon. A nice down to earth fella and an ex punk. Whatโs not to like
