Would do your trip injustice to not have this kind of assitance.
Great, great aid for my wife and I during our trip to Rome. Couldn't leave our place without out. You definitely need to at least familiarize yourself with the layout of the book prior to taking your trip, otherwise it appear intimidating and with far too much information--its not. Like all of their books, the first few pages tell you the overall top places to see. Then it breaks down the city by each area, so when you flip to it because you're going to that area that day, it tells you the top things to see, do and eat in that location / region. All the restaurant recommendations were on point; you get to pick what you want because they have a short blurb about what the restaurant mood and type of food is. Would have greatly short-changed our trip and not done it justice if we did not have this book aid.

Great Rome Planning Book for DIY Visit to Rome
Great, Simple, Easy to Use guide to Rome. I just got back from 7 days in Rome and this book was very useful. It was especially helpful in suggestion restaurants in near where we happen to sight seeing and decided to take a break. It has recommended sights and recommend 3 or 4 day tours planned. Great book for a DIY visitor to Rome. I only wish I had read the book more carefully before going to make better decisions once we arrived.

Excellent, one book to take to ROME
Once again LP has given me the one guide book to take on a trip. What I love about them? The size, big enough but not so big you feel like you're carrying a brick around all day. Good info. Who'd a guessed Robert Hughes had a book on ROME (loved FATAL SHORE).And a MAP for planning purposes, at least. Often my husband, the on site navigator, changes to another map--but this way we have something for me to do the planning.

Great, informative book!
I loved this book. We spent a week in Rome and were able to find some really fabulous churches with this book. It was also a nice guide to read as we walked through the highlights of the city. Lonely Planet never disappoints.

The descriptions of the sights were quite excellent. The removable map was very clear and easy to orientate. So why only three stars? We found it impossible to tie up the descriptions with the locations on the map. Hence we were reduced to searching every part of the map for the places we wished to see. All it would take is fro each sight to have a map reference which is accurate enough to allow finding the location quick and easy. Simples!

Just the Job
This was my first experience of Lonely Planet guides and the book was just the job. I'd read the reviews before purchase which said the map was difficult to read and somewhat confusing and they weren't wrong. However, we easily picked up a free tourist map when we arrived (they're available all over the place) so would decide what to visit by having a read and then just use the freebie map to navigate. I'm glad I bought it and would say its definitely worth the price.

good book
gives you all the info but we felt it lacked a certain something when it comes to finding info on a place. Not as easy to locate but definitely worth having with you. Enabled us to see everything we wanted to in the time we were there (5days). Get fit, lots of walking but you do get to see & experience the streets etc.

Essential for a trip to Rome!
Perfect guidebook for our short getaway. Lists all the sights to see and gives you a day plan to ensure you're able to fit them all in, in the most efficient way using public transport or by walking. Provides some good information about the main attractions and also gives great recommendations for restaurants/bars etc. Would have been lost without it!

exactly what you need
I have been using lonely planet guidebooks for years and I think this is one of the bests. Compact, has all necessary information and suggestions for day tours. I even like the pictures (rather new for lonely planet), as it gives you an idea of what to expect. Good suggestions for museums, markets, restaurants, free entrance in "the best..." sections. I'd definitely recommend
