Caveat Emptor
Really disappointed, figured I'd leave the first real review for this product as the rest are about other products not related. So I bought this with the intent to use my Roku with a HDMI on my older TV with RCA. Didn't work, nada nothing. Come to find out the reason being is that the Roku hdmi send a signal out at 720P or 1080P. This basically sends that HD signal to your old school TV with RCA's & it has no clue what it is. It's like someone speaking Russian to someone who speaks English. This wasn't made clear in the description. So caveat emptor (buyer beware) Unless the hdmi device your trying to hook to HDMI can downscale to 420P standard definition than this is NOT for you

Set your WII to COMPONENT CABLE 480P mode!!
Update 11/22/2013 - Downgraded to 1 Star. Device worked for 10 months and then failed completely. It started failing two weeks ago. At first, it would work for an hour or so, before distortion would appear at the top and bottom of the screen. We assumed it was the Wii itself that was failing, since at first only the Wii menus were affected, but the games themselves would work. After a two weeks, even the games were affected, and all that was left was distortion from the second you turned it on. I tried unplugging it, letting it cool down, and changing between 720 and 1080, but no difference. I started looking for a replacement Wii. Good thing I kept my old component cables, and hooked them up. Luckily, the Wii itself was fine. The ViewHD Wii to HDMI adapter is what failed. As others have noted, the adapter ran very hot. It apparently "burnt-out." I'll have to see if the manufacturer will replace it, and decide if it's worth RMA'ing it. While it worked, it was good, especially through my Yamaha RX-473 5.1 sound system. The newer games apparently have Dolby encoding, and sounded great through the sound system. I'll try to plug it into my DVD player, which will upscale and output along the same HDMI cable. I could plug it into the receiver, but that would require component cables from the receiver into the TV, so I'd need another set (not worth it). I'm curious how many of these units fail in less than 1 year. If you buy it, beware that even if you get a "good one," it may not last very long.Update 04/22/2013 - We (kids, wife and I) have been using this for 3 months now, and it still works just fine! I'm impressed every time I play one of my old games for the first time with this adapter. The difference in sound through the HDMI into my AV stereo is amazing! It really makes the games come alive. The video is a bit darker, but I turn up the brightness on the TV as necessary (really only an issue for us on Wii Ski - night mode). Clarity is better than with the component cables. I couldn't be happier with this purchase!Original Review:Despite the negative reviews, I bought this converter. I already had component cables, but my new Yamaha AV Receiver with HDMI does not convert component or composite signals to HDMI, and I really want just one cable from the receiver into the TV. This did the trick, and I can't believe the difference. Some screens to appear a bit darker, so I switched my LCD TV into "Vivid" mode. We've got all the Mario games, Mario vs Sonic Olympics, Wii Ski, Wii Sports, Sports Resorts, and a number of others. The games that were specifically made for the Wii, like Mario Kart, and Super Mario Bros, not only look better, but the sound is absolutely incredible. I'm sure with a cheap little adapter like this, there will be some duds (the company is aware of several imposters - so make sure you don't get a cheap knock-off), but so far we've been using this for around 2 weeks, and it works great. Having the surround sound feed into my receiver is a big plus, and despite only upscaling the 480P to 720P (without fancy algorithms, which I later realized my DVD player does use, and DOES upgrade component and composite to HDMI...DUH!), everyone noticed that the screens look clearer and crisper. The sound and lack of big ugly 5-part cables are the biggest draws. I hope it lasts, but if not, I (now) know I can run the Wii's component cables through the DVD player/recorder and it will upscale to HDMI for me. I will update this if the device fails, but so far I'm very pleased.

It's an Adapter AND an Upscaling Converter !!
The VIEW HD2HDMI adapter/converter does 2 jobs perfectly. It's a composite cable adapter that allows the use of an HDMI Cable -- AND it converts the Wii's 480p signal into an HDTV signal of either 720p or 1080p. No instructions come with the product, but it's easy to connect and use. From reading the reviews of others, it appears that many of us just don't understand just what the VIEWHD Adapter/Converter is, what it does, or what's needed to get the full benefits of the unit. 1. A functioning Wii unit. 2. A quality HDMI Cable 3. An HDTV that is capable of receiving 720p and/or 1080p signals thru one or more HDMI ports. Installation is easy -- With everything off and unplugged: Plug the VIEWHD unit into the Wii Plug the HDMI Cable into the VIEW HD unit, and the other end into the HDTV's HDMI port. Plug in the HDTV and the Wii into the power source. Turn on the Wii. Turn on the HDTV and select the power source that corresponds to the HDMI port. Your VIEWHD Adapter/Converter comes at the (default) 720p setting. If your HDTV is capable of receiving 1080p signals, use a pin or paper clip to activate the 1080p signal from the VIEWHD unit. Crank up your system -- use the Wii controls to select NETFLIX, and check out your new, upscaled HDTV-Wii screen resolution !! A lot has been said here about HDMI cables -- get the REAL info about HDMI cables directly from the HDMI website !! I have purchased and installed 3 MediaBridge Category 2, 1.3b HDMI cables from Amazon -- all of which have worked flawlessly while delivering superior performance from their respective components. The VIEWHD unit works perfectly when installed as described. TV pictures are sharper, clearer, and brighter -- and the Wii's controls seems to respond much faster, too. The advantages of the HDMI Cable over the Composite Cable that came with the Wii can be seen immediately. The VIEW HD2HDMI does exactly what it says -- and it does it WELL !! Top-quality cables are important -- and the MediaBridge HDMI Cables from Amazon deliver excellent quality and performance at a very reasonable price -- the perfect addition to your VIEWHD Adapter/Converter installation !! When installing HDMI cables into the back of a flat-screen TV, it may be necessary to use 90-degree adapters on the TV's HDMI ports -- so that the HDMI cables won't have to be bent sharply in order to gain clearance. Amazon has those 90-degree adapters, too. Good Luck !!
