Worth the money and effort for peace of mind
Easy to install and works as expected. I left my primary pump unplugged and only used the back up pump, and it had no problems keeping up with the incoming water. Much improved, redesigned pump, as compared with the previous Wayne ESP25 pump this replced. The old back up pump was replaced after 9 years just as maintenance, but it was still operational.

Excellent Back-Up Pump
After research, this was our choice for a back-up pump to our Zoeller M53 main pump and, after installation and use, we are happy with it and recommend it. For back-up pumps, it looks like there are 4 choices: - This Wayne pump WSB1275 - PumpSpy PS2000 - Cheaper, low flow back-ups - Local pumps (eg, Trusty Warns) sold by plumbing companies, costing ~$1400 The local pump option was too spendy and there's no logic in buying a back-up pump that is tiny and has low output - the flow rate from the back-up should be similar to the main pump - if the power goes out and the back-up kicks in, it would be a travesty if it can't keep up and water flows out of the bucket. The PumpSpy is a larger pump with higher than typical flow rate (eg, 2400 gph @ 10' head) and it connects to WiFi to and will send an e-mail when it engages. The Wayne pump flow rate (1680 gph @ 10' head) is similar to our good Zoeller M53 pump (2000 gph @ 10' head) but doesn't connect to Wifi. Getting an e-mail when the pump kicks in would be nice but it's not that important to us. And, the over $200 difference between those two pumps is in Wayne's favor. Some things about this Wayne WSB1275 pump: - The float is not attached to the pump and this independence allows for the float to be installed at the right elevation. The pump is on a cord that connects to the controller. - When the float activates the pump, the pump runs for 20 seconds then shuts off. So, the float needs to be installed high enough so the pump runs for about 20 seconds to prevent the pump from running dry. This takes some finagling and trial/error to figure out. Also, it's nice to be able to position the float away from anything it could get stuck on, like the ribbed plastic sump basket or the other pump. - The alarm isn't overly loud and only engages for about 2 seconds when the pump starts. I saw another review where the person said the alarm was too loud. I think it's too quiet and that it should run longer. We can hear it upstairs, just if the furnace fan is running it can drowned out. - I had a large marine battery from my former custom system and was able to use that with this, so that was nice. Overall, I really like it. The pump is solid, the float works well, and it's simple in a nice way.

Nice setup that's at a nice price.
Easy to setup, wire-up, and get into place. Was a little-bit of a tight fit with both pumps in my pit, but they fit together facing opposite directions. These pumps are quiet, fast, and after 3 months, reliable. Battery backup has been tested a few times manually, and still seems to work well. I'm very comfortable with the setup. It took about 20-30 minutes total to setup with a Y-joint pipe and check valve cutting a new pipe to join the two, and I zip-tied the float to the pipe and tested with a water pour to be sure it wouldn't snag or hesitate. The battery I used was Casil 100 AH Deep Cycle AGM CA121000 SLA Solar/RV battery for $185, which got top ratings and matched the terminal requirements. I Mated this kit to a Wayne CDU980E 3/4 HP pump using the PumpSpy Dual Pump Install Kit and a Raybend,"Silent" Sump Pump Check Valve, 1-1/2" that I had installed prior to hooking up the backup pump kit. Altogether, I spent about $820-$850, which is much less than the $1800 I was priced for a 1/2, 1/3 HP kit by a local plumber. Between the two pump installs, drilling and mods, and running 3 more drain lines that were never installed originally (Heater, tank, A/C condensation, and Humidifier) it took me about 60-70 minutes for all of the work, testing, and cable dressing. At $860 - $1000/hr for after-tax labor, it was well-worth my time, and surprisingly very easy to do. I may add pics later, if I have the time. Don't bother with the unsealed batteries, and the Li-ion's aren't worth the price, especially, as they cold pose a fire hazard in the humid environment you'll be using them in - unless you know the maker well and can trust the quality of the sealed system - especially since this charging system doesn't have the electronics to protect against surges or overcharging of Li-ion batteries. This system shouldn't go through enough cycles to make it worthwhile anyway. In fact, with the reliable power I have at my house, I really only need a standard 12V car or lawn-tractor battery, but it's worth the comfort of knowing this will last and have the capacity if the power goes out for awhile.

So far so good..
Install was easy. I added this as a backup to my Wayne CDU800SS pump. This backup pump can pump water pretty well at 2700 GPM. Which is pretty good for a backup pump. I used a dual pump install kit from PumpSpy which worked perfectly. Kit comes with two check valves which screw directly into the discharges. No gluing or cutting was needed with the kit. Bought a 75 AH marine deep cycle battery for significantly cheaper than what Wayne offers. System was tested and everything works well. My only gripe is the lid for the battery box does not snap shut, or lock in place. It just rests on the box If anything changes I will update my review.

"Smart" charger will overcharge battery. No help from Support
When I received this kit (ESP25n) I noticed that the charger would remain at 14.1V indefinitely. This is a problem for all lead acid battery types (Flooded, AGM, or Gel) so I contacted the manufacturer to ask if this is by design or if the charging system should drop down to a lower float voltage like any smart charger should. It's been more than a week and still no reply. I have since read other negative reviews complaining about the exact same thing, so it appears to be a design flaw. I regret this purchase. Buyer beware UPDATE: Wayne eventually got back to me and confirmed that the charger is a fixed voltage charger and will NOT reduce down to a lower float voltage. This is a ridiculous cost saving measure. A good quality group 27 or 31 AGM or gel cell battery costs about the same price as this entire pump kit and likely will be ruined within 12-18 months if you use this charger. If you use a cheaper flooded battery then you can keep it from getting damaged by checking and topping off the water level every month or so, not something I care to do. The only option now (other than return it) is to a buy a separate third party multi stage charger I don't want to deal with the hassle of uninstalling it and shipping it back, so that's what I'm going to do. In the end it would have been about the same price as some of the more professional pumps available which include a proper charger (along with more flow, better warranty etc). Overall disappointed

Superior backup system design and pump.
This is the pump backup system to have if you want peace of mind with your sump pump. I've had 4 flooded basements from failed sump pumps over the last 25 years. Other than the age of the original pump and a failed float switch, the other floods were all partly caused by human error - sometimes my own. First I tried water sensor alarms, but that's too late (the water is already on the floor) but the batteries died before the flood happened. Then I tried a solar battery backup so my pump would always be working even if there was no power. That failed when the solar battery decided to recharge itself from the A/C power while the pump needed to be running - and it shut off the A/C output because it didn't support simultaneous discharge and recharge. This 12V battery backup system is the right answer. The kit includes a trickle charger maintains the battery when it's not needed, the battery is capable of running the pump for days in the event of a power outage, and the case cover has battery strength monitoring LEDs so you know when to replace the battery - about 5 years of life just like your car battery. There's also a test switch on the cover so you can routinely check to make sure your backup pump is working. You must order the battery separately from this kit - it does not include a battery. The Weize battery (ESP-25) works great and costs less than the wayne branded battery. It's also smaller, so it fits inside the case quite easily.

Impressive, even for heavy water flow
Works very well. I was hoping for a little more flow, but it will stop the water from coming over the edge of the basin at the maximum amount of water flow coming in(worst case scenario). It will not get much battery life because the water will not go down far enough to cycle the pump off, but it will give me a few hours to get the generator fired up, and get the primary pump going. I have to point out that in that worst case scenario, Iโm getting over 30 gallon a minute coming in, and I have 9โ of head to pump up and out. This is during the snow melt and very heavy rain events, not all the time. Most people will not experience that amount of water, so battery life should be much better. All in all, great product, and has already saved me from another basement flood. Easy installation, and I used the recommended Wayne battery.

Good basic backup with powerful pump
I had basement watchdog for decades, nothing but trouble with that brand, sent it back for service and exchanges, they never got it right ... do not buy basement watchdog, it is a bad product, I can't go into detail here but I have a long story with them. This Wayne setup is exactly what I like, just a trickle charger, you can supply your own large deep cycle battery and it has a manual test button for you to check it yourself. It was the automatic features of the basement watchdog that never worked right and it test ran the pump daily while either overcharging or undercharging the battery, constantly beeping for malfunctions and damaging batteries. This Wayne setup gets rid of the trouble prone automatic test features. It gives me just what I want. It does have a battery condition indicator and a beeper to tell me if the pump runs or power fails so I know there is a problem with the main pump. I can test it myself monthly. This is all I want, keep it simple. And the pump is powerful, larger more powerful than the basement watchdog. My main pump is also Wayne, and this pump looks a lot like it except 12 volt operation and a different float switch. I have a 16" diameter sump crock and both units fit inside together. I can't rate tech support because I didn't need it. Installation was simple. One thing though, it requires a 1-1/2" threaded adapter to whatever size drain pipe you are using (mine is 1.5" pvc) and it does not come with this, so be sure to order this piece also to avoid delay. I bought the Wayne adapter that will clamp to either 1.5" or 1.25" pvc. They really could just include this with the system, it's not expensive (if you're listening, Wayne). I think Wayne makes a fully automatic system like basement watchdog, don't know if it's any better, but whatever you do stay away from basement watchdog.

Appears to be a goid 24v replacement
Product received in good shape & as promised. Havent installed yet. If its as good as the 24 volt original system (mtce free, reliable, heavy pumper, no worries over the 20 years in place), then I will he a happy homeowner. Thanks.

No replacement parts available
The quality of this product was okay however I made a goof when connecting pump to power and I wrecked the electrical board on battery cover. It was my mistake and I was more than willing to pay for a new one however it was impossible to find any spare parts anywhere.
