The Insta360 quick reader was something I knew I needed the moment I saw it on Amazon. I didn’t even think twice about reading the description. I just hit the order button and spent a few days daydreaming about my new workflow. When it finally showed up I slowly unboxed it and inspected every detail. I actually heard a voice in the back of my head say "my precious." As I was taking pictures of the unboxing I noticed the bottom of the box listed compatibility for the X5, X4, Air and Ace Pro 2. It mentioned nothing about the 3S. My heart immediately sank while I stood there in the kitchen in utter disbelief. I told myself this has to work for my 3S! I started justifying why the lettering wasn't there. Maybe they didn't have enough room on the packaging or it was a secret feature. I took a deep breath and opened the box hoping for the best. I grabbed the reader and plugged it into the 3S pod. I heard the startup sound but then nothing happened. It didn't recognize the device. I tried a different 3S and got the same result. That is when I knew I wasn't going to win this battle. I checked the website and confirmed the 3S wasn't listed as compatible anywhere. I felt totally defeated. I was in a predicament where I didn't know if I should keep it or put it in a drawer. I decided to at least see how much storage capacity it really had. I was easily able to plug it into my docking station and a window popped up showing a drive labeled "Precious." I blinked a few times and it showed up as "QuickReader" with 476GB of free space. The storage capacity is perfect for moving large 4K files. I dragged some clips into the folder and couldn't believe my eyes. This little thing was pushing 300MB/s. I sat there for a few minutes just processing the speed. My 3S can only transfer files at 40MB/s and my expensive Samsung card only hits 200MB/s. It never worked with the Go 3S no matter how hard I tried to force it. That part was disappointing. However, using it on my computer made me realize that I have fast and reliable SSD that could move files way fast. Even though it failed my specific compatibility test, the performance is so high that it still offers great value for money as a portable drive. If you have the right camera, it is definitely a solid value for money because of those transfer speeds. I ended up with something I did not plan on but I still use it every day. I lost the compatibility battle but gained a fast ssd drive. I also learned I probably shouldn't emotionally adopt storage devices before checking the specs.

The Insta360 Quick Reader 512GB portable SSD is an excellent accessory for anyone shooting a lot of high-quality video or photos. It feels very well-built, compact, and easy to carry, making it perfect for travel and on-the-go content creation. Transfer speeds are impressively fast thanks to the USB-C connection and Lexar co-developed design. Moving large 4K or even higher-resolution files from my camera and phone is quick and smooth, which saves a lot of time during editing workflows. It works seamlessly with my Insta360 camera as well as my iPhone and Android devices. I like how simple it is to plug in and instantly access or offload files without needing complicated setup or software. The 512GB capacity is more than enough for extended shooting sessions, and it gives me peace of mind when recording long videos or capturing lots of footage in one day. Overall, this is a must-have storage solution for creators who want fast, portable, and reliable file management. Highly recommended for anyone using Insta360 cameras or working with large media files regularly!

Plug and play, mostly. Yes it plugs right into the X5 and is immediately recognized and works. The set up is easy and takes just a quick minute. You need to remove the USB-C port cover. If you've never done that, it's always a little unnerving to pull pieces apart. But it is easily done. There's an adapter that goes between the memory stick and the camera. It snaps in where the cover was removed from. The memory stick then easily slides into place. The write speed is instant and I never experienced any lags or errors. The stick can be moved directly to a phone, a tablet, or computer to view and edit your videos. That's the game changer. No more waiting for up and down loads. The only downside I see is the price. You can get memory cards for about half the cost. But, because this is OEM I won't worry about the functionality or quality.

The X5 is already great for transferring videos and pics to the phone or computer - but THIS little gem makes it even more simple - and FAST! No more waiting for stuff to transfer over wifi or bluetooth. Plug this into the camera, capture your video, then plug it into the phone or laptop (or tablet) - and TADA! That's it! The only way the process could be made faster is if you could work the camera tethered (like pro DSLR Photogs do). The size of this is just right. Barely noticeable on the camera and small enough to keep plugged in to a Macbook without adding any bulk. Then too, the USB-C plug means it's compatible with darn near any device - OS or android. Price is right for a 512gb SD card - only better.

So far so good with this. Obviously the shape gives it away as being more bespoke for action the insta360 line of cameras - but it plugs into a standard USB-C port just fine with the included spacer. The read and write speed have not let me down and with this much space it might be cliche to say, but I don't think I'll be running out anytime soon. Nothing to complain about, it's a huge storage drive, it fits anywhere, and is plug and play with your camera and pc. Would definitely recommend for the price if you're needing extra storage on your insta360!

This little Quick Reader is one of those accessories you don’t realize you need until you use it. I picked up the 512GB version and it’s been clutch for dumping footage straight from my Insta360 without messing around with cables or slow transfers. It’s compact, feels solid, and plugs in cleanly with USB C. Transfer speeds are noticeably faster than going through the app, especially when you’re dealing with a lot of 4K footage. It’s definitely geared toward content creators, but even casual users will appreciate how much time it saves. The only thing to keep in mind is the price—it’s not cheap—but if you’re shooting a lot, it earns its keep quickly. I’ve started using it every time I shoot instead of letting files pile up.

This is a nice, compact, high capacity storage solution. I have tested it on my Windows desktop, iPad Pro, iPad Mini, and iPhone 17 Pro. It worked great on all of these devices. Accessing files was nice and fast. It’s a great way to transfer a large amount of files quickly. The SSD also includes little clips that make the connection more secure when attaching to insta360 products.

Very fast transfer from the reader to either phone or laptop..and is recognised straight away...and no worry with sd cards...unless underwater..hopefully one day that will be solved...but a good piece of kit !
