The cards slip in and out of the slots reasonably well. The driver license flips up in the ID window! It takes a little effort to pull out, as with any similar plastic card holder, but the thumb hole certainly helps. The real problem isn't just that the staggered cards add a fair amount of bulk to the wallet to begin with (not surprisingly) but the real thickness comes from that flip-up ID window. It adds multiple layers of leather. Much as I love that feature, I wish this were removable, as it is in some wallets. All loaded up, this wallet is very thick, much more so than the wallet it was replacing, even with some of the cards from the old wallet left out. It's now very hard to get out of my pocket when I need to show my ID someone, or to remove one of the cards to insert into an ATM or hold up to a locked door's card reader.
