The Way to Go

Experiencing the Travel
This book must be read together with two other books by the same author - Heights Anatomy of a Skyscraper and The Works - Anatomy of a City. The three give an all round 360* view of the infrastructure we live and utilise. Should not be read in one go but in instalments and with the connected parts in the other two books.

A well explained book
A simple, but knowledge laden book with some excellent illustrations supporting the text. In essence, another good book from Kate Ascher.

A fascinating book for audiences of all ages and curiosity
I bought this volume along with two of her other books on skyscrapers and the city. This book obviously focuses on the subject of travel, but Ascher's approach is the same as her other two books I've reviewed. She covers her subjects with an interesting mix of text, along with each spread having a graphic of some sort that enhances the text. These are not exploded diagram books with a few words to accompany, instead the text and illustrations work together to augment each other. Without the text, the diagrams (which are all interesting and informative) would not be quite as useful. For those who don't like to read much, and just look at pictures, you'll find enough in this book to keep you interested. But the real value of the book is Ascher's narrative. She looks at many aspects of travel, byt all possible modes, and explains what makes them work, why they are developed, how the infrastructure to support these modes is put in place, and how the day-to-day operation of these transport systems operates. All in all, it's a surprisingly in-depth look at transportation systems we take for granted. You are guaranteed to learn something in each chapter, regardless of your subject expertise. Some label Ascher's books as for younger readers. And while the younger reader will be fascinated by the pictures, I disagree with the labeling: these are books to be read by curious adults who want to know more about the world around them. With each of the three books I've read from Ascher, I've learned quite a bit. And in the end, that's why I read: to learn and be entertained. Ascher does that very well, and I really enjoyed working through this book. Recommended for the curious of mind, for sure!

An excellent book for anyone that has an inquisitive mind on how things work. A very good writer
Excellent book. Goes into the details of the transport industry and explains the little less known intricacy in an interesting and well illustrated matter
