PHR and SPHR Professional in Human Resources Certification Complete Review Guide: 2018 Exams

I have a hard time with this book. Although I mainly used this book for the questions in the back, I'm not sure they really helped. I passed the test on 8/16 and used the following materials to supplement this guide:- PHR Deluxe Study Guide, Sandra Reed- 500 Practice Questions, Olamide Okesun- Sandra Reed, Complete Practice Tests Workbook (1,000 questions)- PHR Pocket Prep AppI read through this book once and felt the material was way too short to actually gain anything from it. Also, the questions, although decent, didn't seem to add much to the questions I was already practicing with. After reflecting on my studies, I think owning three guides is more than enough. My recommendation is to buy the deluxe study guide by Sandra Reed, PHR Pocket Prep App and 1,000 question workbook by Reed.One note I must point out, the test itself is really going to challenge you. My advice is to take lots of practice questions to reinforce the material. The way the questions (most of them) are worded on the test will throw you for a loop and make you really think about the underlying issue at hand.

I thought the book prepped me well and I passed the SPHR exam the first time. If you’re looking for someone to straight up give you the answers, this isn’t it. It will tell you concepts that you then have to figure out how to apply. I will say that I think the fact that I also just finished my Master’s in HR contributed to the understanding of concepts as well. Had I just had the book OR the degree, it may have been more difficult.

I really like this book. Pretty easy to read, focused on helping the reader to get the most out of it.

Covers very little content for the exam. The quizes at the end of each chapter have questions that aren’t even covered in the chapter (or in their book at all). Took some online practice exams and learned how much was missing. I had to start over with a more comprehensive book.
