HDPE Plastic Material
I am not a knife maker. I did once replace a set of handles on a kitchen knife with Micarta. When I saw this HDPE it occurred to me that it might could be used for knife scales. If you slice up the block it gives you 1"wide scales which is wide enough for most knives. By the way I cut it with a bandsaw with a non-ferrous metal cutting blade. It cuts reasonably smoothly but needs sanding afterwards. There are some cautions with regard to building, if you use HDPE for knife scales: (1) HDPE Melts at moderate temperatures. The friction from drilling and sanding can give you some issues as it heats up. You have to take it slow and easy. (2) HDPE has adhesives that stick to it, but your common epoxy may not do a great job. Using mechanical fasteners (rivets, screws, etc.) works fine. (3) It has some tendency to load your sanding belt - Take it slow and easy on the pressure, enough to do the job but not enough to glob up the belt (I use a rubber eraser-like block to clean the sanding belt - it's needed for this and even wood). My trial knife scales came out adequately for my purposes (knife not sharpened yet in photo). In buffing there is an optimum pressure - too hard and you get ugly tiny fold-over burrs on the surface. Too light and it isn't effective, just right and with the right buffing compound you can get a good polish. Other uses: Light duty inexpensive bearing blocks for small metal shafts (HDPE is pretty low friction, UHMW PE is somewhat better, but more expensive). General construction as long as the operating temperature doesn't exceed -50 to +180 F. Inert to most household chemicals and solvents. The Good: Nice inexpensive material, available in both black and white. The size can be sliced down to 1" X 6" scales. Could Use Improvement: For HDPE, this is about what you get.

HDPE blocks are more handy than you would expect.
This 2-pack of 1" x 3" x 6" HDPE blocks are a great value and have lots of applications. High density polyethylene is light, but super solid and durable, which makes them easy to work with/process without warping. It's resistant to moisture and chemicals, and this thick of a block maintains it's shape well even after cutting to size. This particular size is also surprisingly versatile: small enough to handle easily but big enough to be useful for spacers, jigs, supports, or even random DIY fixes around the house or shop. Overall, if you need a tough, low-maintenance plastic block for projects or general use, these are a great buy. Simple product, but super reliable and gets the job done perfectly.

Great For Jigs
HDPE machines very well using woodworking tools. I cut slices of these blocks on my bandsaw to make components for woodworking jigs. It is hard, durable, and works perfectly for anchoring threaded inserts.

Actual usable material is smaller, but blocks are good quality.
I have about a million projects I can use these HDPE blocks for. It's a pretty forgiving material to work with, so long as cutting tools are kept reasonably cool. The given sizes are approximate, as these blocks are clearly offcuts. None of the corners are quite square. Faces are not flat, but have a slight concavity and some of them also appear just a bit twisted. Opposite faces are not quite parallel. Some facing, and possibly trimming and/or squaring will need to be done before these can be accurately machined. That still leaves a pretty sizeable block to work with, which is usually expensive to purchase, so these are a decent deal.
