Is the tea that comes with the tea black tea?

The tea in this starter kit is a blend of Assam black and Sencha green tea.

I have been waiting for 4 weeks for the scoby to float to the top.There are a few quarter sized rings floating that look more like mold.Is it bad?

Mold would be bad. 4 weeks is a long time, a new scoby should have formed at the top by now. Get a new scoby, one that is in a starter tea. make sure to use filtered water. Chlorine is the enemy.

I ordered this kit for someone as a christmas gift. it arrived today and the scoby/starter liquid is frozen solid. can i still use it?

Yes – our SCOBYs can be flash frozen during transit, and will bounce right back once thawed! Simply leave your SCOBY pouch on the kitchen counter for a day or two to allow it to fully warm back up to room temperature – once it's at room temp, you can go ahead and brew with it.

do you have to rebuy the whole kit when you finish off everything?

No you will not need to buy a new kit each time. Included in the kit is everything you need to get started plus a detailed instruction card. For the 2nd+ brews you will need to buy tea and sugar but the original mother can be used 4-5 times. (Each brew will produce a new mother that's connected to the original so you can use it in subsequent brews.)
