Deco 79 Vintage Dark Gray Lock And Key

My husband aged the metal on this lock and key and used it on a Wells Fargo strongbox that he built from scratch to use in a Western tableau in Jacksonville, Oregon. It looks authentic.

Bought this thinking I'd be let down. Well, I'm not! This lock is really cool and it does work! I love the one review "It's not real brass!" Well, duh!! It's crudely made with rough edges and yes tragically not "real" brass but I bought it to lock up a wine cellar room to keep potential in house wine-o's out of the Mrs's and mine wine and bourbon collection. And to my surprise I think it will do just fine! Yes, I also agree with some reviews in that if someone is really determined enough this lock will more than likely not put up much of a fight but it will give someone trying to sneak a sip here or there a hard time trying to accomplish that goal. Currently trying to rough it up even more to give it a more vintage look. Little bit of salt and vinegar should do the trick. If you're looking for something cheap for an old time look and feel that actually works buy one!

The lock is perfect for my purpose. I want it to lock, but it doesn't need to secure anything. If I wanted security, I would buy a Master lock. As it is, appearance is my top priority, and this lock looks amazing. I was alarmed, however, when I pulled the lock from the box, and it came with a most unnerving warning label. Known as Proposition 65, the label states that "chemicals such as formaldehyde .. are known to cause cancer." I'm not sure I would have changed my mind on the lock if I had known that in advance, but I thought I'd post this review to get the word out there.

I love this lock! I bought one a few months ago to use for my locker at work. This lock isn't that much more expensive than a basic master lock so I went for it. Obviously this lock is NOT going to save my stuff from getting stolen from someone determined to break in and steal my things, it is very easy to pick. But to deter opportunistic thievery from small children this works just fine and looks pretty cool. I like this lock so much I decided to get another one to use for personal belongings in my own home. Again, if someone really wants my stuff this lock isn't going to stop them but to keep away people randomly digging through my things for fun this works just fine. Also should note! The keys are universal for the locks. Despite them having unique notches it doesn't actually matter. The keys I have for my first lock works just fine on the second one. As noted by other reviewers both locks came to me very rusty. I just rubbed it down with disinfecting wipes and no problems since then.

Great price, other places were higher. I used it for decorating.

I’ve been dubious about some of these locks from the source country, but this one looks good and works reliably. So much so, I just bought another one. Hope it works just as well

Hi all this is not brass at all, it has some kind of spray paint on it and it looks like and old time army green color of paint. They are scratches on it to the bare metal as if someone had it before me and they scratched it to the surface just to see if it was real brass. But guess what it is not, if you look at the back side of it at the bottom you can see a paint run nipple dried at the bottom. Also this lock looks just like the one lock that says Alcatraz death row on it and it is 44 dollars I believe that it is the same lock. I believe this lock is just some cheap metal and they painted it. And for the Alcatraz version of this lock they just let it sit outside in the rain for a while just to let it rust and they added a tag on it that says Alcatraz death row, and that tag isn't real brass it to is already painted. The one I received was exactly as pictured. The antiquing on it looks really convincing! I had to wipe off the oily manufacturing residue, and it still feels a bit icky, but I'm using it only as a photo prop so it's okay. The keys do work but the action isn't all that smooth. Overall, I'm really happy with this padlock. It's solid, heavy and really cool looking.

Love it, perfect for the pirate treasure chest I built. Lock arrived earlier than expected, works excellent. Would buy again if I build another chest.
